My game, which is also without mods and default everything the competition, even the godolphin version has around 20/30 horses, some less than 10.
If changed midgame what impact if any?
Placing 1-6 in the classics year in year out is a little tiresome, and it has to improve the gene pool for the league. If you change your pool size mid game it wont make ant difference has you set in stone when you first save your game the pool Size but any new game will use the new pool size for that game you will find your pool size in your _Sched_f file in your data folder Gray

Re: How long are your breeding games?
Figured as much after finding the schedule edit, my default is 3500 it seems. I feel a new game is coming. So through the game interface I can up this to 9999, how did you file edit for 14000?

I have had that pool size for a long time just type 14000 I have no idea why you cant type above it unless your using the schedule editor that comes with the game which I don't I use the actual Schedule in the data folder in your program files I change manually in that. Re: How long are your breeding games?
I checked my trainer ranking and I have 69 horses at the moment and the rest of the stables had around the same or lower. What benefits are there to increasing pool size?
Does it make the races harder to win? Does it increase the quality of horses that you can buy at auction?

Re: How long are your breeding games?
I usually play games of 20 to 40 seasons. My pool size is 6500. I use a trainer list of 51 trainers including myself. Most trainers are pushing the limit in terms of horses.

Re: How long are your breeding games?
Gray,
Yes sadly the schedule editor that comes with the game is what I use, least now that I have looked for it, which caps at 9999, likely also the root of Mark's questIon.
I honestly have neither the skill or confidence to mess about with program files directly for the most part. But given in theory at least more horses in your game means likely better game horses which should offer both a higher level of challenge and a more diverse selection of gamebreds to use in breeding, more feels like better.
So the file resides in my program files with my tff and games saves, I'm guessing in the game save directly itself so a different schedule per game, so some dumb questions:
1- what's the file name? I'll assume if I can find a '3500' figure in said file, as the apparent default, that is the thing I'll edit. 2- so upping this once a game is started does not force the game to create more to fill to the cap at the seasons end? You sort of already answered this but wanted to check as would be a better solution than starting again. 3 - assume this is also how people make the g1's into selling races to scoop up the best gamebreds?
Thanks in advance
Josh

Re: How long are your breeding games?
Programme files/starters orders6/Data/1 this is where you find the _sched_f.dat file. If you click on that file it openms in word pad, at the top it says pool, an next to it should have the number you need to change. Change that number and save that word file to the same place.
Please make sure you save the old version of the all this as a back up somewhere though just in case. I usually just save a back up of the whole starters orders 6 file first, for if I want to go back and start it all from scratch again, or for if anything goes wrong.
The _sched_f.dat file and the _showc_f file are the ones for editing for claimers too yes. But it gets a lot more complex then, having to know all the codes to put in. This is where it's much more likely to go wrong. I'm afraid someone with more knowledge than me would have to help there
Oh, forgot to mention _sched_f.dat file is the flat game, there will be an _j for jumps, and _fj for the combined. depending which game you play you would have to alter each

Re: How long are your breeding games?
Ok all seems straight forward enough found and opened the files etc, one more question, in data, there are files numbered 1-11 each containing the same sub files including the schedule, what's the significance of the 11 files? I figured saves but their are only 8 of those. Do I need to change all eleven and or how can I ensure the new schedule only applies to a single save and not all my existing games? Or does it only pick it up for a newly created game?

Re: How long are your breeding games?
Quote: 3 - assume this is also how people make the g1's into selling races to scoop up the best gamebreds? I must admit I have done this. Early on when I was frustrated with my stock and then again when I needed jumpers for the exhibition races we ran earlier. Playing with a seller schedule is completely dull and not a preferred way of playing BUT it is a good way to add some talented blood into your lines. Cheating? Not in my book. Especially considering how my horses were thoroughly thumped in the league this season. How to turn all your Graded races into sellers... Make a copy of your Showcase_f file to use as your seller schedule. Open your copy of the Showcase_f file with Notepad. Click the edit tab at the top and then choose "Replace". In the "find what" box add G1. In the "replace with" box add S. Then click "Replace all". You can repeat this process with the G2 and G3 races too. And all the other classes too if you want. I just change the graded races in my game. Starting a new game with a seller schedule you must have a boatload of money to buy every Graded (seller) winner.
