Post Trainers Notes - Week 5 Uploads
Flat

I have done one cycle on my flat game, 3 breeding seasons, likely training about 150 horses in total and I have made solid progression across the whole team. I am sure I am just one horse away from breaking out on my flat team. I am also focused on one age group for the uploads, most of my better horses originally came in as 3YO's for the upload I have addressed my 2YO team.

Out

2YO Black Rider - So bad there is no point in mentioning what she did and she did nothing and no one would remember anyway
2YO Whats The Verdict - The verdict was always pants
3YO Saint Of The Leger - I actually thought this horse maybe quite decent. More than anything she showed how far adrift I am on the flat right now.
4YO Its A Trap - Lose the 'A' and replace the 'T' with a 'C'
2YO Push The Tempo - Probably the best of the worst, but I have now trained much better.

In

My Kind Of Magic

Sire - Whiskey Marmalade - In the team as a 2YO
Dam - Horse Shoes - Homebred breeding mare

5 - 6f 2yo sprinter who holds her place on the trial sheets through to 4yo. Breed took my best 5f sprinter at the time 'Whiskey Marmalade' and added a full potential breed mare who failed at trial, the result was a mix of his low potential ability and her high potential line. She is a long way ahead of the horse she replaces 'Push The Tempo' and should be a group race challenger at 5 and 6f.

Rorkes Drift

Sire - Zulu Dawn - In the team as a 4YO one league win.
Dam - Belle - Homebred breeding mare

1m horse 2yo who again set a new standard for my 1m offerings from 2 - 4yo at trial. Sired by group league winner Zulu Dawn but has a equally interesting dam, who though she herself never reached potential, her mother was the mighty G1 winning 'Belladona'. Expecting he will offer up a challenge for the group races. Pure 1m type, does not do anything well eitherside of this.

Hooded Claw

Sire - Daliapour Alchemy - Gamebred Stud
Dam - Nightshade - Homebred breeding mare

3yo who mainly comes into replace 'Saint of the Leger' in said race, though he ranges up to 2m. Sire was a decent looking gamebred in the barn who i covered repeatedly, though this was the only one of his young to make the grade so far. Dam was just a trial failed breed mare. Far better than anything else I have at this distance, and looks good for next year also in case I don't improve any further.

Lemon Cake

Sire - Coffee and Doughnuts - In the team as a 4yo, one league win
Dam - Hunters Josie - Gamebred breeding mare.

2yo 5 -7f sprinter. I am always a little concerned when I have a horse who is apparently so good at a range of distances, as a 3yo he starts to look solid at 1m also whilst remaining just a good at 5f. More evidence of my bad flat horses I guess. And like so many of my best flat horses his potential peaks at 90%, he gets there at 2yo and never progresses. Sire is in the league team and looks like a 0-110 handicapper with one race win. Dam is a gamebred brought at auction. Group challenger likely does his best work at 6-7f.

The Red Zulu

Sire - Zulu Dawn - In the league team as a 4yo. 1 group win.
Dam - Red Light Warning - Gamebred breeding mare brought at auction

The last 2yo this time a 1m type who just about stays up to 1.2m, but it is at 1m that I expect her to do her best work. Long way better than anything else I have from 2 - 4yo. Sired by Zulu Dawn again, who I bred with massively after his week 1 league win. Dam - is a gamebred I got at the start of year auctions and trialed well enough for a time before falling off the sheets. 0-110 handicaper but may present a group challenge.

Jump

I did one cycle on my NH game, 4 breeding seasons that turned out 450 horses I kept for racing and training. I have improved my 2.4 - 3m hurdlers significantly and got a couple of stand out stars at 2m and 2.4m chase. Work to be done still at 3m chase and 2m hurdle. Not sure I have enough in the tank to hold off Leon, but I will make him earn his league title at the very least.

Out

8YO - Fantastic Fiction - Not as bad as I think her league for suggests, but a line I have now moved on from, she does still linger on my trial sheets but she is a long way off my best 2m chasers.
4YO - The Groom of Doom - My NH lines do not peak until 8yo, they are not even that good at 6 or 7 so certainly not up to snuff at 4yo, his league form flattered him I think.
8YO - Barca - Actually did well in the league with several 2nd place finishes include a G2, but he is a long way off at trial now and I simply have better available.
8YO - Tip Top - Never produced in the league and has fallen off the trial sheets now.
8YO - Going To Be All White - I have a bunch of 2m hurdlers who are all at about the same level, has not shown much in the league, so I am simply switching her out for another to see if it fares any better.

In

The Monster

Sire - Floats Like A Sommerfly - In the league team with 5 wins from 5 including one G1
Dam - Word To The Wise - In the league team with 3 wins from 4 including one G2

2m specialist chaser who stays to about 2.2m. Breeding is pure class and has a league record of 8 wins from 9 races. Neither need much introduction here as their record speaks for itself, both are front running types and this lass has the same race style. And she really is a Monster, beats her Dam over 2m by about 3 - 6 L and is rarely hard pushed. She will also sit off a more natural front runner and hit the front at the business end. I spent at long time trying to decide her best age, but settled on 8yo simply as she is not quite up to snuff at 7 and remains a Monster at 9. Novice for this year as her mum is set for the Queen Mother and 'Word That Hurt' who is her grandmother has been exposed too often in the league as a Novice. New export time for my 9yo's given me more years for my best horses generally. G1 class. Arkle the target.

Coffee and Cigarettes

Sire - Coffee and Doughnuts - in the league FLAT team with one league win.
Dam - The Good Buy - Gamebred brought at auction

Australian flat horse who beats everything from my NH stable as a 4yo hurdler. This is really a bit of an experiment as I do not like firm ground NH horses, but as I do not run a combined game I lack the ability to mature horses in my NH game for this younger age. He is also a front runner for the most part and I like the style. Not expecting graded wins, but should be more interesting than the horse he replaced. Could also be a total bust.

The Machine

Sire - Test of Faith - in the league team, trials as my best 3m chaser
Dam - Skip to the Sommer - Homebred breeding mare

I would have called this one the Monster if I had not already used the name. Beats everything I have in my team at 2.4m chase by some margin. Has put 6L's onto the best runs from 'Floats Like A Sommerfly' at trial. Breeding was actually an attempt to improve my 3m chasers, but sadly he does not stay. Sire is my best 3m chaser at trial and in the league right now, but cannot deal with GI 'sodding' Joe. Dam is from 'Floats Like A Sommerfly' but did not realise her potential. Not an out an out front runner but will adopt the style, tends to feed off the front runners, but then I have so many my trials are an interesting battle of who wants to lead right now. G1 class will make it very hard on anyone who has aspirations of the Golden Miller. And another who is in at 8yo as a Novice as he is actually better when he is 9yo and does not want to bump into my existing 'Open' 2.4m chase team.

Angel on my Sholuder

Sire - House of the Angels - Homebred no league form.
Dam - No Sign of A Perk - Homebred breeding mare

I remember when I named this one thinking I was sure I had already used the name 'Angel on my Shoulder' and was suprised when the game took it, was not until later I noticed the typo, and the other one was rubbish but is in the barn, I plan to breed them for comedy value. The sire is a really interesting horse, looked really decent on paper and trialed well but was not quite to the level of my best and missed out on a team slot, but I put him into the barn and I am glad I did as he has produced 4 or 5 really good 2.4m hurdlers. I could replace my who team with his stock alone, and he has since fallen off the trial sheets due to his offspring. I wonder how many others like this I have gotten rid of. Dam is a breeding mare from a line that has produced league hurdle horses at 2m to 3m including 2 time winner 'Return of the Royal' and 'Dominatrix'. Group class, Aintree Hurdle is the target and as the only 'Open' horse I have added will be after the Breaker of Chains, the Mother of Dragons and all those other titles she seems to have. Do wish the comms team would get the name right for Leon though :)

Looks The Part

Sire - The Best Man - Homebred no league form.
Dam - All the Right Parts - Homebred no league form, dam to 2 time league winner 'Reap What You Sow'

Was actually in contention for the original league team, but I went in another direction. I could and maybe should have upgraded another area but my 2m hurdle team look outgunned right now and I simply want to see if this lass produces better in the league. Recent trial form also puts her higher on the pecking order. Should be an improvement on the horse she replaces but the margin will be slim. Sire is a older 2m hurdler who is not off the trial sheets. Dam a solid breeding mare who has produced a few decent league horses, but is now probably coming to the end of her road at 19yo. Handicapper, should challenge the graded races.

Team Rhodes New Flat Recruits
Basically I trial my 3YO's only at Classic tracks such as Epsom Newmarket
& Doncaster so for example my 3YO Milers will only ever trial at Newmarket
and nowhere else. So when the window came in I trialed all my old horses to see
how they would do at other tracks again for example my mile 2 horses trialed
for the Eclipse Juddmonte International Irish Champion Stakes Champion Stakes
Breeders Cup Classic and I went for the most consistent in these trials.

1M4 - C - Ahsari Neyim - 3YO
The sire of French Derby winner Ultimately Cool and the grand sire of Epsom
Derby winner Phantom. He just missed out making my Derby team but trialed
really well for the King George Arc Breeders Cup Turf so he gets his chance in the
League and he is one I'm excited about.

1M2 - C - Zero Tolerance - 3YO
Trialed really well for all the major 1m2 races left this season faired better then
Classic winners Ultimately Cool & Kind Special so should be there or thereabouts
in G1 company.

6F - C - Lightening Bolt - 3YO
Would have been in the league at the start but Hail Ceaser got 1 point more on new
trials at other tracks Lightening Bolt is the superior horses and loves racing against
the older horses he always beats Park Royal over 6 furlongs. He should bag a G1
before the end of the season looking forward to him running in the Diamond Jubilee.

1M - F - Mortified - 2YO
Must have bred her 6 months ago could not fit her in at the start but she comes in now
She will hopefully be a big player in the Fillies Mile & Breeders Cup Juvenile won't see her
at her best until she races over a mile hoping for a promising debut in the Chesham at RA>

1M2 - F - Seychelles - 2YO
Granddaughter of Ahsari Neyim she is rock solid over 1m2 and very hopeful she can win a
G1 before the end of the season. Criterium De Saint Cloud is her major target and she is bred
for the race so I'm Hopeful.

Flat

Probably don't have quality at 3 to keep Paul at bay, but my flat performance has exceeded my aspirations already. I could have improved my older horses but my new uploads are just really testing the waters to see how far off I am with my 3yos

Out

2YO - House of Dreams - Doesn't look like she can even win a 0-80 handicap
3YO - Wild Sights - Did ok placing in a group 2, but seems wants 5f and have better at that distance and 3 at 5f is too much
3YO - Geralt of Rivia - Got closer than expected in the Derby but a long way off the pace
3YO - Bloodstone - Managed 4th in G1 but quite far off the best
3YO - Unlikely Spy - Expected better but her tailed off last run got her the chop

Blunt Instrument

Sire - Geralt of Rivia - Was in league team best was 6th in Derby
Dam - Forces of Darkness - Nh mare

1m 2yo colt. Entered in a 10f for first start. Won't stay. Better at a mile. Bred long ago, but reluctant to use newer horses in case they become Nh superstars

Bad Moon Rising

Sire - Evolutionary Void - Multiple G1 winner in game, but sadly never trialed well
Dam - Flow By You - Hold up horse who ran 3rd in a pre season trial. When I tested the waters to see if hold up horses woul be ok in league

6f 3yo filly. Way better than Wild sight and will with clear runs be in the mix for group 1's. Expecting a bold showing in the Commonwealth but both Vinny seems to have some new monsters.

Figure of Speech

Sire - Sailing to Philadelphia - Almost made my 12f team, and was one of my initial wow moments when I found out my older horses were so much better than my younger ones
Dam - Coraline - Nothing special except for her stats 100% speed and 97% acceleration. Plus full potential at 5. Never translated those stats to performance in CK but won a G1 in game, can jump and has passed the stats down

14f 3yo colt. Beats all my 12f 3yo's but really needs further. Good marker to see how far off Paul I am.

King at Night

Sire - Rotten Apple - High stat non NH 9f horse
Dam - Heavy Fuel - 3m3 chaser. Bred with sire to get rid of poor jumping and firm ground

2 mile 3yo colt. The one I am most excited about. Beats my older horses in trials. The only 3yo of mine that does so could be something special. Limited races for him but can drop to 14f so will give me a double entry in St Leger

Order War

Sire - Barbarina Bryn - Multiple G1 winning game horse
Dam - Bayou Moon - Maiden in game. Trialed well over 5f in CK.

1m 9yo stallion. One for the purists. After Johns group 1 winning record which I have equalised already for the oldest horse to win a group 1. It is very rare to have a flat horse this good at 9 but he is, but only in the ck. Maiden in the flat in game. Group placed over hurdles and chases but managed only 2 modest wins over hurdles in game. He should run ok at Ascot on first start but is better elsewhere. He is way better than my 2 3yos that have got very close to Paul in the classics as well as Rampage Town who has already won a group 1. Exciting prospect

It's funny because I am looking to see over the next few weeks how the 3YO's do against
the older horses to see if I need more older horses in future teams My gut feeling is that
the older horses Leon's especially might do better than the 3YO's so its a fascinating couple
of weeks ahead races like the Sussex Stakes Eclipse/Juddmonte King George/Arc will answer
alot of questions when it comes to the shape of future teams.

Post Re: Trainers Notes - Week 5 Uploads
Love this, great write up so I'll have a go;

Hefei Delta -

Sire - Lidar Somain - Game horse who has took my sprint game to another level
Dam - Hanghu Cheval - Average CK performer who got nowhere near my league team, quite an early bred horse actually, but very well bred

The one that started it all, this horse took my sprinting lines on by about 5 lengths, never seen anything like it. The best horse I've ever bred until I bred from him. Won every trial over 5f an 6f by at least 3 lengths with the jockey always celebrating about 3 furlongs out

Xinyi Nightngale

Sire - Hefei Delta - See above
Dam - Hanun Cyclone - Half sister to Hanun Colony who looks decent enough in the league, also out of Hanghu Cheval the mother of Delta

6f horse who is every bit as good as Hefei Delta, much better on soft, an if a decent race pops up with soft ground I'm convinced she'll be right there. Makes my league group1 winning horse Wuwei Damsel look like a plater, she doesn't get withing screenshot of these new 6f horses. Only issue is that she is a hold up which may cost her.

Xinyi Player

Sire - Hefei Delta - See above
Dam - Yumen Bod - no CK form at all, was in there for the stats, but does have perfect breeding. Out of Foshan Titan who isn't a complete disgrace in the league

6f horse that just completely blows everything away, including Hefei Delta. Only horse who beats her is Xinyi player on soft. I hate to get too carried away as I've struggled so far, but this horse could be something a bit special. Again a hold up horse, but I wouldn't back against her in any race

Putian Bargain

Sire - Wuwei Coronas - Responsible for a lot of my league team, but was never any good in the CK itself. Was breeding solely for the 100 potential bar
Dam - Novi Sad Swell - A very early breed who I just couldn't get near for long periods in the CK, but never ever produced anything good till now at the age of 18

1m2 front running mare, tough to tell with this as my 1m2 horses in general are pretty disappointing in the league, but this blows everything away by 3-4 lengths every time. The front running should help also but she does seem to hit a flat spot 3 out, then pick up again at the end, very odd running an I'm not totally sure what to expect from her, but hopeful.

Putian Crus

Sire - Hanghu Leary - Probably my best league horse by a distance, quite an early bred horse too who runs over 2m - 2m2. Definitely up there with the best 2m horses in the league
Dam - Lipu Goal - An avergae an very early bred sprinter who again was perfectly bred (out of Akiste Tower, recently retired from my league team) but never performed in the CK trials.

A 1m4 horse who again is hold up unfortunately. This puts Kaiping Slick (league Derby 2nd) to bed very readily in the trials, a good 3 lengths better I'd say. Sometimes wins the trials by 5+ lengths. I have to be worried it will get the breaks though as it comes from so far back

Post Re: Trainers Notes - Week 5 Uploads
NH

Two wins behind Josh at present so work to do. Added 5 horses that would hopefully make me competetive in distances and divisions I am weak in. It's going to be close for the NH title but I have more chance than in the flat. Expecting a lot of people to improve their stables though so should be interesting.

Out

9YO - Don Quixote - Been ultra poor and long gone from trial sheets
6YO - Beowulf - Its clear that the older horses in my stable aren't as good jumpers. Have improved my jumping of my stable by selective breeding and he gets the cull as a result
6YO - Golem of The Gears - I somehow landed up with 3 novice 3 mile hurdlers. He gets the chop as is the least versatile.
7YO - War Leadership - Done nothing wrong having already won a race. But he is no longer in my trials and has made way for better
6YO - Treasury Matters - Have decided Josh's 2 mile chasers are too good and have removed one of mine for something at another distance where I have more prospects. I am in the unfortunate position that the best in my trials by some way are the older 2 versions of the horses I have at 2 mile chase in the league

Hail to the Victor

Sire - Crossbowman - Triple winner of grand national in game and sired a number of great long distance chasers.
Dam - Snare Fact - Front running long distance chaser.

4m3 chaser 9yo mare. Depends how she goes in her first start, she will either plot a route to the grand national or go for the group races. If she falls or runs poorly she will be kept under wraps. If she wins, which is quite likely she will go the group race route. Won the grand national 3 times in the game but can make the odd mistake in the CK. She is up there with my grand national winning horses of the past and expect her to do well.

Lap of The Gods

Sire - Submarine Caper - Duel gold cup winner in game but not that good in CK
Dam - Crown of Shadows - Versatile chaser won from 2m5 to 3m5. Difficult to pinpoint best distance

3m chaser 7yo stallion. Unfashionable CK breeding but both parents have good jumping stats and decent game form. Multiple G1 winning chaser in game. Often gets the better of GI Joe in trials. Decided to go all out for the Gold Cup. Will have a strong hand now and I am not sure who is the better of the two.

Machengoidi

Sire - Geralt of Rivia - 6th in Derby in the league. Sire of over 170 group 1 winners in game
Dam - Volcanic Eruption - Multiple winner in league and star novice chaser

2m5 chaser 7yo stallion. Lost a 2 mile chaser for him. Footsteps gets close to Josh's Float like A Summerfly but is no longer in my trials. He dominates my trials, can front run or come from last. Amazing jumper with an awesome ability to make up ground very quickly. Way better than the 2 I currently have and should give Float like A Summerfly a race over a distance slightly short of best in first start

Night and Day

Sire - Golem in the Gears - League placed hurdler
Dam - False Horizen - 2 mile chaser not setting world alight in my team, but is in at the wrong age.

3 mile hurdler 7yo mare. Both my current hurdlers no longer make my trials, so decided to bolster my team. At best at Cheltenham where the hill will play to her strengths. Expecting a massive improvemnt for me in the 3 mile hurdle division.

Stop Messing Around

Sire - The Gathering - Miler in game with good jumping stats and a sire of excelent NH horses
Dam - Checkmate - Very good jumper. 2 mile chaser

2m5 novice hurdler 7yo stallion. Saving the best for last. There are 3 G1 for 2m5 novice hurdlers and he is good at all those courses. Better than Daenerys Targaryen and Dreams of Steel but they doing well whereas my novices are not. As to why a horse with a 6f stamina bar he is getting 2m5 I have no idea. Both parents where milers and didn't stay a yard past 2 miles so a real head scratcher. But I am not complaining. The best of my new uploads

I would still bet on you, I’ll never catch you on money as you own me at 3m plus on chase and if you eat into my advantage at 2m and 2.4m chase really just two horses then I think you will pull away. You already beat my 2m and 2.4m hurdlers and there is nothing to split our 3m lot. I can no longer access the handicaps either.

It will be close. Yours are better jumpers and fall less. The benefits of manual training are clear to see. I have figured out how to improve the jumping with breeding but some of my current seem to be a bit sketchy. And improving through breeding is a slow process and involves watching a lot of races using jockey cam.

I never get the fascination with being top trainer, perhaps I'm just not that competitive a person. I think i've been top trainer but I couldn't tell u when or how many times and it was not because I was trying to win it  it must be stressful as the weeks go by.

Speaking personally I'm never too bothered by trainer championships its all about the horses classics
firstly then Group Ones and if I can win a few of them a season I'm more than happy any championship
is a bonus its not something I target at all I do keep track of my own records though which does include
trainers championships but I keep all my league records.

I Guess we are all different John and thats the beauty of the league it can cater for peoples different needs
and wants.

Why would it be stressful if you win it you win it if you don't so what it is only a game after all. I won't change the way I enter horses to try hunt down winners. That probably explains why I have ever only won Nh once and that was on prize money. Never come close to the flat. If I was ultra after winning the flat title I would have uploaded another 5 older horses

For me it's about winning big races :) I would be happy with the Gold Cup and the Arc. And if I can somehow fluke a g1 sprint race.

When in a title battle are u watching the competition horses as well!!! I've been racking my brain and the only the comp I remember is the battle me and Jamie had one year, it was in Paul comp and we both had the same winners and second and thirds and I think Jamie had one more fourth place finisher. I have no idea about anything else, it could be old age though

It’s not at all stressful for me, it is just part of the experience, just like every G1, group or general win is. And I’d add things like beating a rival horse in a big race etc. Its just part of the competition. You want stressful try being a Tottenham fan :)
