I will help out here if needed. As long as there is some form to base the preview on then i will have material. Would love to take on one of the Group Ones but suspect you will want me to prove my worth first. Let me know which race you want me to do. alex.ince at ojassociates . com |

I'm a race secretary so will only be able to do 1 or 2 previews at most before running the races. For week 2 I'll preview the Dubai Duty Free (race 4). Writing any more previews will be determined by how much spare time I have on Sunday Morning. |

1000 Guineas Preview - Will update as needed till Sat. A M Lilac Rose (Wannabe) Rating 115 Won the 7f Guineas Trial Maiden on G/S going at Redcar in the first week but struggled a little in what was almost a repeat field at the 7f Nell Gwyn Stakes and never quite had the pace in the final furlong at Newmarket. Given the extra furlong for the 1000 Guineas may find herself outpaced again. Second highest rating in the field but questions remain as to how this filly will perform especially given G/F going. Argentum (jalupen) Rating 116 Impressive in winning the 7f Nell Gwyn Stakes. Showed a real turn of foot when asked and left the field for standing in an explosive finish. Trainer rates the horse at 1m highly and will likely cope with the extra furlong easily. Bookies favorite. Ashjaan (Shadwell Stud) Rating 107 Unimpressive in both runs so far but trainer is highly bullish about this fillies chances in the 1000 Guineas. Maybe worth a punt but on form would have to rate this filly a rank outsider. Athena Arena (pjrhodes1970) Rating 109 Good run to finish 5th in maiden outing at 1000 Guineas trial. Rather less impressive in the subsequent Nell Gwyn Stakes finishing well down field. Needs to stay close to the front of the chasing pack if to have any chance of coming in the places. Trainer reckons filly best at 1m but one suspects course doesn't suit. Bobs Bits (keithbeaky) Rating 108 Two run of the mill performances so far would suggest this filly will be an also ran. However, given the trainer, could well spring a surprise as the performance of her stablemates so far this season have been stunning. Will this filly get her act together? Breeze Thurm (jharrison) Rating 87 Ran in 9f Maiden and finished middle of the pack. Distance better this time around but unlikely to figure in the places. Dubawi Heights (lewiscrewe) Rating 92 Pedestrian performance in first run at 9f. Not sure the step down in distance suits. Probably a step up to far in class on the performance of the first run. Frankie Baby (17days) Rating 89 Well down the field in the 7f 1000 Guineas Trial Maiden. Trainer feels that filly should get the mile better. Question remains as to whether the horse is good enough to compete in G1 races. Giuletta (cairnsey90) Rating 108 Spring Cup winner at first time of asking despite trainer having filly's best distance at 9f. Dead last in Nell Gywn Stakes fading badly at Newmarket. Doesn't bode well for 1000 Guineas especially given going is G/F. Likely outsider given going and expected faster pace this time around. Green Bessie (davylad) Rating 100 Filly out of a top 10 stable but underperformed so far. On last showing in Nell Gwyn Stakes, would not appear to have what it takes to cope with Newmarket's testing finish. Hatasa (akhc) Rating 116 Showed her class in winning 7f Maiden at Leicester despite unfavorable ground and distance. Trainer confident this lovely filly will get 1m easily. If runs to form should make the 1000 Guineas an exciting contest but smart money will be on Argentum to win. Higher Lady (ubar02) Rating 81 Early leader in maiden outing at Spring Cup but faded badly in the end. If she can keep up the pace without flagging then could surprise but unlikely to be more than pacesetter. Opal Son (needglue) Rating 103 Hong Kong based. Trainer calls this filly a strange horse. Apparently able to get anything from 8-12f. Ran a credible 5th in a 12f Maiden in week 1. Trainer states horse is a stopgap at 1m given the abundance of talent that can cover 10/12f and should be good enough for group company. There's a huge difference between being good enough for group company and being able to win in group company. Sir Slick (giddy) Rating 111 Surprising 4th in recent Nell Gywn Stakes given how she faded in Maiden race. With the step up to a more suitable distance, can this filly find another gear and finish stronger. Probably not challenging to win but perhaps worth an each way bet especially given ground is G/F. Sweet Nothings (cahiller) Rating 71 Second carrying top weight in recent mile Handicap race though note small field of 3. Lowest rated horse and expressions that spring to mind include "when pigs fly", "month of sundays", "hen's teeth". You get the picture. Tom Thumb (mikey1892) Rating 90 Two previous runs so far both in 6f maidens and very much middle of the pack. Trainer rates this filly at 1m which begs questions as to who made previous entries. Unlikely to challenge given previous form but if this filly runs well then I suggest heads fly at the stables. Summary First G1 of the season for milers and moderately large field with a range of ratings. Both the 1000 Guineas Trial and Nell Gwyn have been noticeably short of pace making the result a crap shoot. Having said that Argentum has run well in both and shown a decent turn of foot especially in oustripping the field in her recent group win. Comes into the race as the ratings leader and rightful favorite. Higher Lady should set a faster pace for this race but will probably leave the favorites to battle it out at the end. Bobs Bits will be looking to redeem her season whilst A M Lilac Rose will hope that her last outing was an aberration. Giuletta's unlikely to figure given ground is G/F. 1. Argentum 2. Hatasa 3. Sir Slick |
