How much time is there between entry closing time and the running of the races. 12 hours? 24?

What if you realize at the last moment you entered your horse out of its distance rules. Which I thought I did for split second. Or maybe you're a wuss and want to scratch your horse out of a race because you sense you cant possibly beat that one horse or even all of them. Is a late scratch time period doable? Just throwing out a thought I had.
