I've paid £20 to support the development but I was hoping for more than just a 3D engine. Horses being raised 16lb for a 1 length win is game breaking for me so I've stopped playing already.

I am disappointed that it is difficult to see how far is left in the race, also there should be more information on the runners during the race - if nothing else the starting price so you can see if an outsider is coming in or where the favourite is.

this is displayed in top corner it tells you how far is left to go

I disagree. I'm disappointed over some aspects like the lack of realism in the race sequences, but the 3D graphics and the things that have came with it (such as jockey POV, seeing a race from multiple angles) has really revamped my interest for the game, and I think it will catch interest from a larger market. I really enjoy the world map aspect as well. Give Mark time to iron out the bugs, and we can eagerly await S07 for even more advancement in the gameplay. We can't expect everything at once with the newest addition of the game.

This is true BUT we should be told just how much of the game play is that of SO5, almost all I suspect, even some of the faults of SO5 have been carried over (double auction fees sometimes but not always for example) One of the earlier posts on this thread hit the mark I think in saying this game is aimed at a larger public,a games playing public that will only take note of great graphics.

My daughter and I both bought SO6 ,she has gone back to 5 already and Im only staying in because its still being beta tested so Ill give it the benefit of the doubt. If pushed to answer Id say game play is, at the moment a little worse than SO5 ( Handicapping, too many close races etc) but that might still change.
If we have to wait for and pay out again for better game play in SO7 that will NOT be good

Races are supposed to be close, in horse racing you don't see Secretariat level win margins every day. The average win margin is under 2 1/2 lengths, wanting them to be larger is very unrealistic. Even if your horse was immensely better you don't want it to be more tired for the next race it needs to run. I wouldn't want unrealistic win margins anywhere near the game.

I don't think the previous poster was meaning that he wanted all races to be won by large margins. He was just saying that pretty much every race was won by a narrow margin. This was the case when the beta was first released, although it's been tweaked by Mark and there is now a far greater variety of race outcomes. We all enjoy close finishes, but you do also see those races where one horse is very impressive and demolishes the field, and it's not always an all-time great; it can sometimes just be a horse that is on top form that day, or is just much better than its opponents on any given day. One of the best sights in horse racing is seeing a great horse pulling away from a field and winning by many lengths. Those races need to be in the game, as well as the close finishes.

Can't disagree with you there panther, I still repeatedly watch the 1973 Belmont with awe, what Secretariat did that day was beyond astounding, it is said people were weeping as he crossed the finish line, just so overwhelmed. I thought coppinbros meant they wanted to see all races having larger win margins, I understand if you put your G1 winning champion in a claiming race you should see an undoubted crushing of all opponents, but I wouldn't want to see those same huge margins when I raced the same horse against adequate competition. The horses bred in the SO6 game thus far have not reached the same quality as the horses we were breeding in SO5, honestly I don't expect those nice win margins yet, if I was already demolishing the competition that badly within only a couple weeks of the game being released, I would be a bit disappointed at the ease of the game.

I'm not just talking about homebred horses though. Even amongst the races with gamebred horses, there should be a good and realistic mix of comfortable winners and close finishes, with everything in between as well. Easy winners are fairly frequent in real life, especially in 2yo and 3yo races. Obviously, handicaps would generally see closer finishes (unless you have a handicap 'good thing' that's running off a much lower weight than it should be), as really that's the whole point of those races, but maidens and other level weights races will see a wide variety of outcomes, from short-head winners to dominant, multi-length victories.

I agree I don't see how anyone shouldn't the graphics was the only significant change in the game. Don't get me wrong they get a 10/10 for graphics massive improvement but it feels like they have copied and pasted everything else from SO5; adding on a few minor new things that really have very little importance such as the location of your stable, horse transportation and e-mails.

That being said I am not sure I downloaded the patch? When did it come out, I may have bought the game after, but most of my races are quite close, idk if it's just coincidence but I don't think I've seen a win of over 4 lengths, then again most of my horses are closers so that might be why they don't win by good distance.

Mark has been tweaking the race sequence gradually over the course of a few patches, so it wasn't in one particular one. There's still a little bit of work to be done in that area, but it's much improved from the original release. Patches come out every few days. When you load up the game, if there's a globe icon in the bottom left of the main menu screen, that means you have patches outstanding.

I am out of date. Do I have to worry about any of my saves if I update it? I also have the Start It Mod, will it delete it?

Just backup all of your data files, then update. After the update, copy over the data files with the files you have currently. Everything will work. Also, all of your saves store their data, so if you change the data files, old saves will still work.

As mjtags said, you can back everything up and put it back in after any patches. As this is the beta though, I wouldn't get too attached to any particular saves, as there's a pretty good chance that there could still be updates in patches that will not properly take effect unless you start a new game. I'm really just playing around with the game at the moment and updating my schedules; I don't plan to start any 'proper' games until the game has been fully patched and officially released, out of beta.
