Post Looking to buy Starters Orders 6 but....
Does anyone play on a MacBook?
I've recently bought one and was wondering if SO6 is the exact same game on the Mac as it is on a windows system?
Are there any differences etc?

Cheers

Thanks for the reply Mark.
Without being able to try the demo for a few days on the Mac, just wondering, Is SO6 a toned down game on a Mac compared to a windows version? Also, horses exported from a Mac game can race against horses from a windows version?

Cheers

There is no reason horses will not be compatible for league purposes but currently there is no league running.

The water doesn't look so good on the Mac due to a lack of shaders and the horses do not have real time shadows (they still have blob shadows though). The PC supports Oculus Rift (DK1) and the Mac doesn't. That's all I can think of.

If you have a choice then buy the PC version as it get's updated quicker (the Mac is probably five or six patches behind).

before i make my further comment, i would like to say i have loved this game and still do to an extent.

But if you are considering buying it for the Macs don't.

Hardly anyone plays it on them and therefore the forums provide very few fixes.

they are many issues with crashes. so much so i cant get past the first season of my jumps game, every time i hit the auction it crashes. (i have saved it the day before the end of season- and it crashes each time)

Also on the flat game i save it every month as it has a tendency to crash on race days.

on the mac there is also the issue with putting on the race calendars people make etc, i am yet to find a way to do this, and noone on the forum has answered this.

If you have a old windows laptop lying about i recommend buying it on that- i did that before the pc crashed and it is much more enjoyable.

If you get crashes report them. Otherwise Mark can't do anything about them, I know there is a problem with the Apple store taking up to two weeks to put updates online which is why there are delays with it.

No, there aren't as many mods for Mac users, the game hasn't been out for quite so long but also most people on here are PC users.

I imagine the schedules people make aren't compatible because Macs use something other than notepad to store and edit data. So again, I would suggest you either raise it in the technical support forum (in the 'bugs and suggestions thread') or maybe find out what format the schedule in your current game is saved in and see if you can modify it that way. There are lots of 'how to make a schedule' threads, but I don't know how they would convert to Mac OS. Obviously save and backup your game before you try modifying data.

Does the Mac version have the schedule editor? If it does you can create a schedule for yourself using races from all over the world.

The Mac version is a port and I always recommend the PC version as a first choice. That said there should be no crashes. If there is we need to get files emailed in so we can look at them. As the Mac has a much smaller user base and has only recently been released it is important people get files to us.

As far as mods go I am not as familiar with the Mac as I am with the PC so cannot be sure the following will work on your machine. Try replacing files as follows and see if that works:

Go to the Applications folder
Right click on the Starters Orders 6 icon and select Show Package Contents
Double click on Contents
Double click on Resources

You will then be at the location where data and course files are stored. Try replacing them and let us know if it works. If you are replacing the DATA folder ONLY replace the files that need replacing (such as showcase, schedules, trainers, jockeys, courses etc.). Do not replace the whole folder as you may introduce a crash.
