Post subject:  Some general questions

Hi fellows :)

I began playing in the hard mode and I wonder why my horses with high stats do not perform like they should. Additionally I have some general questions what affects the performance of horses.

1. How do I know if a horse needs a pacifier?
2. Is the Head Lad Feedback really significant? (I had many horse who are "suited to dirt" but ran as good as on turf)
3. What can I do if the Jockey comments:
a) ran freely
b) ran lazily
c) raced wide
4. Does it affect the performance of horses when they rest in grass for some weeks over the season?
5. Why do high class horses with several G1 wins suddenly perform bad when they enter my stable?
6. Why does it seem that the Battling Qualities of every horse in the game is not more than 10 from 100? All have the same as Ascoral
7. How can I put own pictures into the horse profiles?
8. How important are gallops and how often should I do them?
9. I have many horses with high stats performing bad on the track. For example:

10. What do the characters behind the horse names mean? These DG,G,CDG

1. The Head lad normally says but if ride in jockey mode sometimes you pick it up youself.
2. No, very rarely do i listen to my head lad.
3a. I'd probably hold the horse up, try to get him to settle or run him over a distance shorter and go hard from the front.
3b. put some headgear on him
4. There's no reason to put him out to grass unless injured or your not going to run him again.
5. Sometimes there on the decline and aren't as good.
7. Dunno if its possible.
8. Unless your playing on certain setting or difficulty, its done for you and don't need to do it.

Headgear won't help, that will make it more unsettled. If it says 'horse could have settled better' I'd ignore, this'll improve with age. If it says horse would not settle then if it's a colt then geld it, if it's a filly/mare then I'd consider selling or only breeding with stallions which are laid back.

2. In the US game most horses get the "better on dirt" comment. The ones who don't get it are probably better on turf. The game needs to add a "better on turf" comment.

5. Are your horses fit and ready to race on raceday? Are you buying old grade 1 winners who are no longer what they use to be?

6. Just how the game rolls. The few with high battling qualities usually have low potential. You have to breed specifically to raise BQ and have high potential. It's a long road but can be done.

7. Go to your Starters Orders folder in program files. Go to the gfx folder. Go to the portraits folder. In there is the horses folder where you can add your own pictures. I made a horse portraits package here that a lot of folks use...

8. I manual train and have never used gallops. They can be used to see what horses of yours are better or like to run on the lead.

9. Ascoral is decent but no Grade 1 performer. You need horses with higher potential. Start new game after new game until the game gives you a 3yo or older horse with 95% or better realised potential in your first group of horses. 85% or higher with 2yo's. Run their campaign and then retire and breed. This is how you start a dynasty.

10. C/D/G - horse has won on either course, distance or going.
