Just a quick question guys..

I assumed I could export a horse straight from the transfer pool but I can't. If I create a new game solely to export my horses and then exit the game will my horse be exported but also still be in my transfer pool?

Exporting and pooling are two different methods to manage your horses they are not linked in anyway directly. Pooling as you likely know already is a once a year method to make a copy of your horse at the end of the year. Which with game crashing post pooling can be used to have both your horse in game and a copy to move to another game. Miss your yearly shot and your waiting another year to do it.

Exporting can be done at any time during the season and is triggered by pressing the 'E' button next too your horse picture when looking at his stats/records, it makes a copy of the horse in the export pool, different from the transfer pool, for purposes of trailing horses in the export feature and making them available for league play. The export pool and trials is accessed from the main menu not from your saved games. You need to be off your save to trial exported horses.

As for secrets to export, if there are any they are closely guarded, from what I know all you need to ensure is that your horse is at the peak of his fitness, export an unfit horse and the copy will be just as unfit, different times of the year seems to be just player preference, early to mid season I usually export mine, instructions and styles as suits the horse requirements. Equally re-importing an exported horse back into the game if possible is a secret I have yet to find out, so if you do not keep a transfer pool or game copy they are gone, likely why people often speak to the two things in tandem, but they are different processes for different purposes.
