So, now I've done my laugh at me sharing of the hilarity I had trying to set up my first barn, I'm wondering what next. So, lets have as a given, I have one barn that is self-sustaining and can produce nice, but not monster, horses for now. I will of course keep developing it some. I also personally don't like using very cheesy tactics. But, I'm not above using a little bit of it them! So: If one barn is in a flat-only schedule country, do you set up a second barn that uses flat/jump? or vice versa? Do you share pool horses between them often? To race? To breed? Legends: Do you have them appear? How often? Do you still bet on them after you get set up? Legends: Since I messed up and only had one ever show, is it worth it to race against them? Is it reasonable to a core of my good horses and babies to pool, and "restart" mostly the same barn to alter game settings? (like Legends or country) Does that work out well? Do you often use select pool horses from a working barn to jump-start a brand new barn? Do you set up any kind of specialty barns and use the pool to sort horses to them? Do you make use of custom schedules? What do you use them for? If you do, can you use the pool to send a horse that won custom races to a vanilla barn? I'm sure people have opinions. I am just one step past clueless now and want to read these opinions! |

I play a second jumps only game but I haven't done much with it lately as i'm quite excited where my flat breeding is going. My flat stable is quite large so it takes some time to run a full season. I think having the two stables is the way to go but as many people have said in the forums when they race in the league that running discarded stayers over the jumps they have a quite good success rate. My advice is to get your flat stable up and running so it is healthy and you have no more money worries - then start your jumps stable. Then you can transfer your discarded horses to your jumps stable and if need be sell them so you can get your breeding happening quicker. |

Some more on your questions: I run two main games one jump one flat, though the flat is on a combined schedule I simply ignore it. I also run three other games on a combined schedule to increase my breeding numbers. I am not overly reliant on pooling but do move horses to the jump game often enough from the other four, subject to transfer limits. I also pool my 'specials' usually colts to all games for breeding, it tend to do it less with the fillies as you end up with too many brother/sisters which are not allowed in the league. I am pass the point where legends matter, they were in my games but I did not really pay them much attention All my games were originally seeded from my first game, but I rushed through around 8 seasons on each to dilute my stock, originally retiring all breed fillies with my selected colts. I typically create 80 odd horses per game now Yes I have tried to make special lines in my barns, originally one was potential one speed and one crusing burst, but the lines are blurred now due to transfers and trying to get all three aspects being represented in all barns Don't use custom schedules don't have the time. I also tend to find I make small improvements each season with training, the increments are minor in trials but consistent, with the odd leap forward which are the horses I class as specials |

I have a few 140+ stallions on my flat save with plenty of 130+ mares, I usually break it down and go at the end of the three year old campaign: 130+ - Flat save stud 125-130 - 6f-10f horses transfer to jumps and run the 2m route - 12f horses transfer to jumps and run the 2m4fish route - Leger/Melbourne Cup horses take over and go for the Gold Cup/World Hurdle routes Anything lower than 125 either discard or run as a four year old depending on potential bar and ability/what I already have in the stable |
