I have been trialling horses for the league mostly over 1m and 1m 4f. I have exported horses to CK at age 3 and age 4. The only difference in their green and red bars is that my 3yo have 97% potential and my 4yo have 99% potential. When I race them against each other in G1 races the 3yo gets a 6lb allowance. I cannot make up my mind if a 6lb allowance is worth 2% more potential. Since you can not race the same horse at age 3 and age 4 against one another, I have been racing 3yo against 4yo, mixing and matching horses. The results in the CK are inconclusive. Sometimes a 3yo wins the race and sometimes a 4yo wins the race. I have about 5 different horses who are winning races as 3yo and as 4yo, but because of how competetive the races are, there is no clear best horse at either age. What age of horses do other stable owners prefer? |

I have read the thread you are referring too and while it is very interesting, it does not answer the theme of what I was asking and that is: Is a 6lb allowance in a 3yo worth 2% more potential in a 4yo? While I appreciate that this is a very subjective question that depends on the individual horse, I wondered what other trainers thought of the question, weight V potential. |

I would say I rather not give the weight to a 3yo from a 4yo if we are talking Flat but I have handicappers so I would rather have 4yo so I only have 3yo for the big classics. Gray |
