Post subject:  What is your style ??

Ok lads...... what is your style of training ? Run me through a typical season as a trainer/owner.

Where do you buy your new livestock ..... '2yo pre-season sales' , 'Weekly auctions' or both. What system do you use for purchasing new livestock ?

When do you decide to ditch the nope hopers that you have just bought ?

Do you breed horses with like for like stats ?

Do you breed classy 5f horses with 1m4f horses ?

Tell me what is your formula for success.

If you could give me 3 good tips on the road to breeding..... what would they be ?

Thanks in advance guys ....... I look forward to your replies :)

I had my first good crack at the game last night - flat game only, easy method.

The first thing I did was sell my two two year olds in a seperate weekly auction - they were both by a group 1 winner and both fetched about a 600k each. This gave me enough cash to upgrade the stable - swimming pool, a/w gallops and breeding barn.

I then had three other horses. My three year old won a maiden, but then got stuffed in the French Guineas trial. So I retired him to stud (he was by a group one winner). I then fiddled about with my 2 older horses, one was a 5f sprinter and the other a 2m+ stayer. My sprinter was pretty pathetic, and he managed to pick up a seller and sold for 80k.

Now my stayer was pretty good, his best distance was 2m4. He finished second in the Queen Alexandra and only managed to win the Cadran! Group one winner in first season!!! I sold him in the last weekly auction of the season and picked up just over 500k for him.

Then, in the pre season auction I bought a couple of expensive fillies (I had just overs 2million to play with). I spent 1.2 million on a miler and 650k on a spriner - with the aim of picking up a bit of black type and breeding with my lonely colt in the shed!

My sprinter has just won the Group 2 Railway stakes and looks classy, while my miler has just won at the first time of asking and has a rating of 93 - so fingers crossed for her too!

Generally I:

- Sell my first 2 year olds.

- Retire a colt early doors with a good pedigree.

- Try and find him a couple of hot fillies!

i like to trawl through the early claimers and sellers lots of good 3yo come out in theses races look at distance/times as you will see a 1m2f horse better a standard time by 1 or 2 secs over 7f/1m nearly always end up listed at least and you only pay 200k soon as it gets some black type you can treble that

as far as breeding I just retire my best horses to stud. my thing that I am addicted to is watching the claiming and selling races and looking for a good horse to turn profit with. It is very rewarding to get a horse that no one wanted and run him/her hopefully for a few wins before
sending them back out in the claim/sell races.

Well it's a tactic that applies to SO4 and I was taught this technique by Pjrhodes.

When you start your game (warning, the next bit is cheating sort of but it is allowed in SO4) go to Art Money and get yourself some nice cash.

Enter your horses at correct distances in feature races

At auctions, buy horses that win well (i.e by more than 3 lengths, but last time out not like 3 races ago) and enter these horses in feature races

Once you get a Group 1 winner retire them and look for a Group 1 winner (if you really can't find one than any Group winner will do) of the opposite gender and breed those two

Keep this going until you start getting sufficient numbers of 2yos coming in

Also breed your stallions with game mares and your mares with game stallions sometimes

Once you really get going, only breed Group 1 winners.

Thanks all for taking the time to let me into your world of racing.

I will now spend the next three days using some of your ideas.

Enjoy :D
