Post subject:  Triple Crowns

Hi all, I have recently started to breed some very nice colts and fillies which has started me thinking about potential triple crown attemps.

The link : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Triple_Cro ... red_Racing ; has been a nice and informative read as to which triple crowns I can plan for..

The main purpose of the post is to ask the following question;

Do the french have a triple crown ?
If not, then what do the french try to achieve to immortalise the horse into horse racing history?

I would assume it is to do with Longchamp and the Prix races, but I have no idea about french racing to be that honest :)

Ever heard of the Prix de L'Arc de Triomphe...

I heard that is THE race all the French want to win!

I honestly don't know about the triple crown or prestigious 3yo races in France... If you look in the SO schedule there are a few races in late June and July for 3yo only over 1m4f (natural step up after 1m Guineas, 1m2f Derby) so maybe that would be part of it. But I honestly don't know.

You could go French Guineas, Derby(Prix Du Jockey) and then the Arc?

France horses i think is this route:

French 2000
Prix du Jockey Club
Prix Niel
Arc

Fillies

French 1000
Prix Diane
Arc

There is also a French St Leger the Prix Royal Oak but usually targeted by stayer as it's basically over 2miles (1m7f and 150 yards i think)

Add the Prix Vermeille to the Fillies list!

Post subject:  Re: Triple Crowns

realistically the 'french triple crown' doesnt involve the poulains at all,
the 3 major targets for their exceptional 3yo colts are:
1. Prix du Jockey Club
2. Grand Prix de Paris
3. Prix de l'arc de triomphe

no triple crown in france

the french 1000 & 2000 guineas or known as Poulains & Pouliches are not even counted as classics

prix du jockey club
prix de diane
grand prix de paris
are the only regiistered 3yo french classics
also the arc is registered as a classic too i supose we have the irish st leger registered as a classic for 3yo up
i did alot of research into overseas classics for my website and what i have stated above is fact

Yet again thanks all.

I have just had a look online (since I am home from work) and this should clear it all up.

Prix du Jockey Club 1st Sunday in June 2100 m Chantilly Racecourse
Prix de Diane 2nd Sunday in June 2100 m Chantilly Racecourse (restricted to filles.)
Grand Prix de Paris Mid July 2400 m Longchamp Racecourse
Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe 1st Sunday in October 2400 m Longchamp Racecourse

Only Le Pacha in 1941 and Peintre Celebre in 1997 have won all three of the Classic Races open to colts. Time to find a horse to add to the history ! :)

Yes they have no triple crown but they have the prix de Diane, 3yo fillies 1m2, prix du jockey club 3yos 1m2, grand prix de Paris 3yos 1m4, arc de triomphe open 1m4. All races are open to both colts and fillies except the prix de Diane and the arc is open to all ages. Geldings are not allowed to run on a by French classics, hence cirrus des aigles running in the champion and not the arc. As stated above, only peintre celebre and le pacha have won all three races open to colts, in the dame year, no filly has ever won three. This is the French triple crown of sorts but it is not actually recognised as that.
