Post Breeding question
Hey, not posted for a while but just got back into it again & want to join the league but need to ask a few questions about breeding and then potentially joining the league!

Is it best to breed only your own horses or breed your horses with the ones from other owners? I'm only a couple of seasons in at the minute so not got many worth breeding anyway but i want to know in the long run which is better!

Also is it better from breeding purposes to concentrate on one distance for a while? Or should i mix it up?

Now my one little league question....is it only worth entering horses that have a full potential bar or have close to full got a chance anyway? Also can someone point me in the direction of what times my horses should be running to stand a chance please (I can count and i do know this is 2 questions now haha)

Thanks!

Post Re: Breeding question
i spent years breeding with the best non owned horses and found 99% produced usless horses
so i now dont even look at non owned horses some might disagree but i have done alot of seasons
and can only call it the way i have seen it so breed with your own.

Both can work nicely but i like mix breeding eg breeding stanima with speed eg. a 6f horse with a 1m2f produces nice milers
or even a 6f with a 2mile stayer can produce good derby and oaks horses.

your answer to question 3 is yes i think you will need horses with max potential to do well in the lge even though i think you could take a handicap or 2 without (but best to give yourself a chance go for hores with max)
when i got into breeding 2yo's after several generations i was getting 2yo with full potential and filled to the max
anything the did not reach that criteria i sold straight away you can waste alot of time some horses never reach there potential
i also recommend puting 4yo out to grass dont waste time on them and bring them back at 5 because this is when they hit there peak

i would not worry about times because they will terrify you if you have only just started to prep for the lge
it is possible to win plenty of handicaps with advrage horses in the lge i won the lincoln last year and it was running 2sec down on John Sctters standard times

dont aim to high mate but do get involved its great fun and any win will give you a massive boost and buzz

Great reply with lots of information for me to look at! Thank you very much!

I will start using your tips straight away!

So they hit their peak at 5? Do they struggle once they hit 6? Got a 7f and a 1m2f at the minute that have both won 5+ G1's and both are 5 now! Should i send them to stud after this season?

past there prime at 6 start to go down hill at 7 you get the odd 1 that breaks the mould but

How many horses it is worth having to run a good CK? From my first 3 seasons i've probably only got 2 worth exporting and they run at diff distances lol

Post Re: Breeding question
I don't know how much things have changed since the original online league but I remember most of us got a bit of a shock when we sent our stables of superstars to race online.

Our horses were winning every G1 around and beating everything else out of sight in our home games and winning millions and when they went to the online league they were finishing well beaten (sometimes last).

This is just a warning not to expect your home game wonder horses to still be wonder horses in the online game.
There are some serious horses take part in that side of the game, mostly homebreds that have been homebred for several seasons until they achieve real greatness.

It was still fun taking on others in the online league but it certainly put a few of us in our place.

I'm not trying to put anyone off playing online as that is the natural extension of a horseracing game (taking on others)
It's fun to take on other players, but just don't rush in to race your very first horse that wins a few G1s in your own game.

good luck
