Post subject:  A Couple of Questions

Guys - could someone enligthen me on any of the below?

1) Who do you normally go for as a UK flat jockey? With no specific data shown other than win % etc, it is hard to tell who is good/bad/otherwise...... I usually use shorter distance horses (up to 1m) and tend to find Dettori is the man if I can get him. However, a lot of the time as he is contarcted to Bin-Suroor, he's not available. Can you permanently hire jockeys already linked to another stable? Do they ever become unattached? If not, is their someone unattached who would be a good bet to tie-down?

2) When breeding, as Potential starts to drop, how does this pass onto offspring? Will the newborn pick up the maximum potential or realised, dropping potential? Just trying to gauge when a horse should be moved on from barn to elsewhere.......

3) Does anyone ever get anything good in the pre-season auctions? No real data on them so just unsure whether they would be a waste of cash.

4) When you breed, you get the option to use a half of the pair from outside your own yard........can you do likewise and charge people to use your horses currently in the barn?

5) When you fully retire a horse from breeding barn to elsewhere, I seem to get rather well paid for this......keep getting 1m or so on start of season. Where do they go? Are they still in the game and being used to breed by AI stables? Or is the price of pritt-stick shortly going to sky-rocket?

Post subject:  Re: A Couple of Questions

1)I Use Ryan Moore he is excellent & no jockeys never become unattached and the list of jockeys never updates

2)when your horse reaches 6 or 7 he will start to dip in potential and more importantly in ability but still passes his best potential and ability
on to his offspring

3)Yes always buy at E.O.Y 2yo auction when you are starting out always buy all 2yo over 1.2million i have though found it better going to
Thursday auction and look for group winners & 2yo's

4)no but if you notice on the finance page day 1 of the next season you get horse sales payments these are your stud fees you receive its
not explained well but these are stud fees for your stallions in the barn

5) no your horses never breed with ai horses its just a nice touch that you get paid for stallion duties but they don't physically happen

hope it helps

Post subject:  Re: A Couple of Questions

Thanks, PJ. Gopt a mobile number I can use to make the transition from question to answer EVEN easier?

Moore is my 'back-up' if Dettori is not available. May just try a few more out and see what happens.......can't recall if Moore is attached or not. If not, when I get in later, he's mine!

Won't go mad nowadays on 2y/o auctions as I managed to pick up the stallion I wanted yesterday. A 120(ish) rated 3y/o Miler with Potential bar a gnat's ball-hair away from 100% potential. Could never get my own to get beyond about 80/90%.

The stud fee stuff makes sense. At first, without noticing, I thought I had 2y/o's I bred that didn't have the stable space and were being sold......as you said, not the clearest, is it? :D
