Post Making money
Hi All
I'm a newbie on here but have been playing SO5 and following posts on here for a few months.
I have noticed a lot of threads about various ways of trying to generate money, most of them involving ctrl-alt-del and betting if you want to get ahead.
I have found a great, non-cheating, method that has made me a multi-millionaire by the end of the first season which I have not seen detailed in any other threads (my apologies if I have missed it).
I play the standard British flat schedule.

1. Sell the 2YO you are given at the start to raise money (as mentioned on other threads)
2. Take out the biggest loan the game/bank will let you have.
3. Hopefully you have been given a horse who is rated in the 80's or 90's, but always go to the weekly auctions and look for horses rated in the 90's. They will not be overly expensive.
4. Race these horses once in either a handicap or listed event just to confirm that the rating is accurate.
5. Run the horse in either a seller or claimer where it is very likely none of the opposition is rated any higher than the mid 50's.
6. You should have plenty of money in the bank so back the horse to win a few hundred thousand pounds (always leave sufficient funds in the bank for step 7)
7. Buy the horse back at the subsequent auction. You must have the funds available to cover the total auction fee but you only actually pay 10% of the price.
8. Repeat as necessary as often as required. Obviously the higher the standard of horse that you have, the less risky the race is but a higher stake is required.

Three warnings on this method however:
1. Try to avoid horses with major quirks as you don't want to see a 1 million pound bet refuse to leave the stalls!
2. 5, 6 & 7 furlong hold up horses can be a risky proposition as despite being far superior they can get caught behind a wall of horses and lose.
3. You may still want to save beforehand at the very start as horses can get injured. This has never happened to me in a seller or claimer yet!

I hope this helps some people.

must admit i am always slow to start...what i tend to do is buy some cheap mares and a stallion and sell teh offspring. i have noticed that even the most ordinary youngster can fetch 60k!

I am doing ok - had a few failed attempts just having a fresh go
Finding out that home bred yearlings can sell well so putting mares to good stallions to attract higher prices
Buying horses at auction that will win sellers and claimers by a country mile and heaping the money on them to make profit ie horses that are at the top of the handicap or been running in races way above their ability. can pick these up relatively cheaply.
Long way off having that Gold Cup horse but still hanging on there and very satisfying have not cheated at all!

just run the horse 3 or 4 times at the wrong distance in the space of a few days. The horses handicap rating will drop about 20 points as it will run very poorly when running in its 3rd or 4th start in 4 or 5 days. Wait until the horse has recovered and it will go on a winning spree and you will get much better odds when backing it

Just a note you might get a stewards inquiry regarding the improved performance of your horse, when it wins after this
