Hey everyone, im back :D

I promised a new "storymode" thread in my quest to conquer the ultimate 3yo miler challenge, when I had a new good horse. I THINK I have one. It has had one of the better 2yo season any horses in my SO career has ever had. Now im not a pro at this, so maybe its not a beast, but im ready to give it another go :D

I present Living Proof:

Image

It doesnt look a beast on stats, but have really impressed me visually in racing. I had better horses I was eager to try in maidens, so this one was kinda neglected and didnt race until a Wolverhampton maiden in late March. Led all the way, jockey dint move a muscle and was never threatened. Jockey indicated it was ready for a step up in trip, and I was ready to step up in class, so I started looking for a suitable 7f race. I sent her out in the Chesham Stakes Listed race on Ascot in June. It was agitated and sweating in paddock, so was a bit worried. Raced handy, told to go 2f out, quickly drew 2 lengths clear, and just cruised trough the last furlong. We where ready for Gr company. Sent her to Doncaster in September for the May Hill Stakes Gr2 race. It was slightly held up to mid division. Jockey gave her marching order 2,5f out, was quickly on terms with leaders and in the last furlong she went almost 3 1/2 lengths clear, looked impressive. Plan was now to stop racing for the 2yo season cause I had already decided it was ready for the challenge as a 3yo, but the last race was so impressive I was tempted to let her race in BC Juvenile Fillies. I decided to send her to USA. She missed the break completely, but without jockey touching her, she cruised up to be 4-5 length off the lead just after the first furlong. 2.5 furlong to go the race started, entered last furlong together with another horse, but last half furlong she edged a length clear to make it 4 out of 4. This was not really impressive visually, but she has an extra speed when she needs it it seems, so im optimistic.

The 3yo schedule:

English 1000 Guineas
Irish 1000 Guineas
Coronation Stakes
Sussex Stakes ( my nemesis :D )
Queen Elisabeth II
Breeders Cup Mile

From what Ive seen so far from the horse I predict the 2-3 first races should be possible to win, the test will once again be the Sussex Stakes I predict. But then again I can be totally wrong and it will be over after English Guineas :D

Comments? Can Living Proof do it?

English 1000 Guineas.

The first race day of a new 3yo miler challenge was finally here. It was half a year since Living Proof's last run, and I was hoping the good training sessions had made up for the lack of racing, the horse was well "prepped" and it was a nice view in the paddock.

A beautiful day at Newmarket, sunny and the going was G/F. Living Proof broke well, but was restrained to be among the last after they have raced for a furlong. It was ok pace, but not as fast as I would have liked and it could be a tough task to reel in all the lengths we had given away in the beginning. As they approached the last 4f we where still a good 5-6 lengths of the leaders and the favoruite was still 3-4 lengths ahead of us. Living Proof was told to go and quickly picked up the pace. Race favoruite was still going really well tho and as we entered the final furlong still had a 1 1/2 - 2 length advantage. But Living Proof did what he had done earlier when he impressed me so much. First found one gear to catch up with 0.5f left, and then looked like he found another gear to go on and win by almost a length. This is a fighter!

We have climbed the first mountain, English 1000 Guineas, on we go to Ireland with hope for more success :D

Irish 1000 Guineas.

Everything looked good as we arrived in Ireland. Last days rain had made some impact on the track, and the going was good. As usual Living Proof was a joy to watch in the paddock. After English Guineas the jockey indicated that she might stay another furlong or so, and her stamina bar sure suggests it as well, but her nice turn of foot makes me comfortable she will also have what it takes to continue to be a good miler. As the going was good and I expected a good strong pace I did not instruct the jockey in any way and was expecting a hold up run and a strong finish.

The race unfolded very much in the same way as the English Guineas, except this time she settled in mid division but still 6-7 lengths off the leaders. Once again she was not asked for anything before they had approx 3.5 furlongs to go, and as last time there was a leader trying to run away with the race in the 3 last furlongs. She quickly gained pace when she was asked for it, but as they entered the last furlong the leader had a length advantage and the same pace as Living Proof. I was staring a defeat in the eyes, BUT ,yes you guessed it, she refuses to loose. Half a furlong to go and she just finds more, catches the leader and goes a length clear. Now im really impressed, I know it might be tough against older horses later in the season, but im beginning to hope she at least will be the one to break my loosing streak at the Susses Stakes. Firstly tho we are of to Ascot and the Coronation. Fingers crossed :D

Thats 2 of 5 out of the way, and Living Proof remains unbeaten.

Coronation Stakes.

Instead of repeating myself I will keep it short. Broke well, settled mid division. No runaway leader this time, entered final furlong as leader and drew almost 4 lengths clear. Not hard pressed at all and should be in nice shape for the task at Sussex Stakes, now we will get an answer of how good she is. Probably we will hit the wall here, but keeping fingers crossed.

More to follow shortly.

Sussex Stakes.

For the third time we had reached Goodwood with an unbeaten 3yo trying to conquer the Sussex Stakes against older opposition. Its been a really nice and dry summer in England, so the Goodwood track was hard as concrete and the going was hard. I did a quick review of the field and we where up against a really strong field. The favoruite had 14 Gr1 victories to his name, and many others where multiple Gr1 winners as well.

Living Proof was once again a sight for sore eyes in the paddock, nice and calm. Broke well and settled in mid division as in the Coronation. Jockey nudged her along as they passed the 4f pole, and gained some placings. When they had 2.5 furlongs left the jockey went for the whip, but nothing much happened, and for a few strides now she actually lost a few placings. From the 2f marker til they entered 1f out nothing much changed, and she entered the final furlong together with 5 or 6 other horses, with a leading horse a length ahead. Now she found that final speed she had showed before and was closing down the leader together with 2 other horses. She got closer and closer and when they passed finish she was...........fourth :( She was only beaten a small half length by the winner, and a short head from podium.

Im a little disappointed but still it was a thrilling finish and the closest I have gotten to beat the Sussex with a 3yo in this challenge, now its back to the drawing board and find some even better candidates. I already have a couple of 2yo's that has shown great potential, so maybe im back soon, or it might take some time. I will enter her in the QEII and the BC Mile as well to see how she does there and update those placing in this post.

English 1000 Guineas - Won
Irish 1000 Guineas - Won
Coronation Stakes - Won
Sussex Stakes - Beaten half a length to 4th.
Queen Elisabeth II - From dead last waaaay of the pace to finish 6th. Poorest showing she has had so far even if she finished best of all, signs of needing another furlong.
Breeders Cup Mile - She was agitated and warm in the paddock, but she flew trough the last furlong to win by 2 lengths.

Yeah I will, gonna update the placing here as the year goes along with short comments.

Living Proof 4yo season:

Queen Anne - Finished 2nd, raced handy for the first time, 1 L behind winner (Gamehorse with 20+ Gr1 wins)

Sussex - This race is obviously not mine to be won, horse was boiled over and extremely agitated, drifted to last in betting. Despite this she won the race by a neck!!!! AND was DQ for interference inside last 2 furlongs. Jockey said it was harsh and she should never been DQ..........Sigh........

Prix Jacques Le Marois - Last from start, cruised thru the field nicely and won by 2 lengths.

Prix Du Moulin - Finished 5th. All looked well in paddock, but dont know what happened. Jockey nudged her along straight out of the gates and didnt stop once before easing her up last half furlong. Keeps saying she needs another furlong. Probably a 1m1f horse.

Queen Elizabeth - Beaten 2nd, a small nose or more like a tiny nostril behind winner.

All in all a good 4yo season with placings: 2-DQ (1st)-1-5-2. I will be back stronger and better prepared than ever at a later time :D

And on a side note I have registered on the TOM site so might upload a few donkeys when it opens up for fun, and to see if I get addicted. I expect nothing but last places all the way, but im curious to see how far off I am :D

As you're finding out the hard way, held up horses do not do well at Epsom/Goodwood especially if the going is G/F or better without specific instructions. I'll bet if you run even paced and challenge earlier you'll find your horses are plenty good enough to win.

Thanks for the heads up, I did not have a clue about this. I kinda let the race unfold as the jockey "sees best fit", but maybe that is a little naive? I will have this in mind for future tries.

Thank you! Nice that I can give the horses good names at least, cause im a bit stuck in the moment. Been reading a lot of tips on breeding, but im banging my head against the wall at the moment. Cant seem to progress pass the part of getting good horses. They are ok, but nothing more. I wont give up tho, just need to dig deeper, but I would lie if I said that im not a little frustrated :?:

I don't know if u are doing this but if u are not then this is what I done when I started, I opened a second game and just used it as a feeder game, I went to every Thursday( the best horses are there) sale and if they are group one or two winners I bought them, then I looked at their Ability to see if they were good enough and if they were good enough( got to be very good) i'd put them in the transfer and if not resold them straight away. It might take a few years but when u found six good horses put them in u main game and breed from them straight away. U need Very good Game Breed horses to start u game.
