| Post subject: | Beginners Guide? |
I am new to SO5 or any other game of the previous ones. I tried to go through the forum for the last couple of days and went back to around 10 or 15pages and collected some info though was wondering if there was a guide someone did here or a walkthrough or a list of tips which by now someone might have already done. I thank you and keep up the great thing. PS. I believe that if Balthazar King was on the inside he would have won as he only lost by 5lengths and running for 4miles+ on the outside is a tough thing. How on earth can a horse run such a distance and not get more tired at the end. Etienne |

Balthazar King was trying to find the better ground as he prefers it good, he only ran on the real outer up the straights, he cut the corners like all others. I feel you are talking from your pocket. Comply Or Die ran as wide as BK and won. I understand that if he was on the inside he would had saved distance, but with that their are other dangers. In SO5, what you need to do is goto the races, watch a result that 2 outsiders contend 1&2 by a good margin to the 3rd. ctrl alt dlt, end the game, reload. then barney curley the forecast. every thursday buy the high rated horses. I know it is wrong, hopefully mark will stop us doing this in the next edition. |

Or if you don't want to cheat then simple sell all your horses at the start then you should at least 500k if its easy mode then you should get around 800k - 1mil then buy the best rated horses to get a good wee stable going and buy a breeding barn. |

There isn't an official beginners guide. But there is a lot of information on breeding on the Online League section too. I think the best way to learn about the game is through trial and error. Buy the breeding barn, breed what you've got, see what happens. Race horses over varying distances, try betting, buying really expensive etc. You probably keep running out of money, but you'll learn a lot about how to play the game and probably get a lot more out of it too! |

I already thank you guys, for the info you gave me. I am going to every auction and monitor every 2yr old which comes 1st or 2nd and has a rating of 80+, though I have a question: Is it normal to find a horse who is 2yr old, has a rating of above 80 or 90 even and costs you 500 or 700k and than only discover that his potential if less than 3/4full? And does it go further more that it is marked? Etienne |

to get a nice pot without cheating as such........ ........start game and skip a season. Sell your horses straight away unless one is a middle distance 3 year old colt. Then buy any 3 year old colts that you come across either on Thursdays or through claimers / sellers. Run them all in the Irish Derby. Hopefully you will have the winner and maybe a place or two as well. Sell them straight away and then start playing properly with a decent amount of cash behind you. Maybe try and buy some older 10f or 12f horses as there is good prize money to be won with these in some weaker Group 1 races. The Champion Stakes can sometimes be particularly lacking in depth early on. |
