Post Just bought Game..New Guy
Hey fellas,

Well I just bought the game last night and spent about 4 hours yesterday playing it just to get my bearings on what is going on and how to play the game. I'm good in that department. The part i'm not is that i know really nothing about horses or horse racing so i had some questions. I have been doing trial and error with the game but i feel the experts on here can maybe guide me.

1. How many times should i race my horse in a month, once, twice?

2. What races should i put my horses in?
(Now i know i will put them in races by their age and also by their running lengths, but there is more to it. Like Handicap, Maiden...etc? My horses are: 2yo Filly 5f / 3yo Colt 7f / 4yo Filly 1m1f. I've been watching their time and comparing it to other races in that same theme.)

3. When is a horse too old?

4. Is it better to have Males over Female horses?

5. Have horses done better when placed in races that were longer in length even though the game states otherwise?

6. Where can i go to buy horses?
(I know there is an auction almost everyday, but those auctions are for horses in "sell" races. I think i heard somewhere that they are not good. Is there another place to go to buy horses?)

7. When training horses, should i train "gallop" everyday or am i killing my horses?

Thanks for the answers.

P.S. Loving the game!!!

Welcome mate and some of your questions depend on flat or NH in flat horse around about 8 for example is old but over in the nh side its too old..
As for where to put your horses, you should start in maidens then see how impressed you are, i tend to go the brocklesby root if it wins a maiden in style..
The breeding indicator isn't always accurate so you might need to do some gallops to test there stamina and see how far they can go.

Also a little tip sell all your horses on new game start, if you play on easy then you should get around 1mil mark then buy a breeding barn and some more stables then go to the weekly auction(thursday end of race day) then buy some good horses.

As for training i think in RL they train the horses everyday. i couldnt say i play with simple training on lol

I play the Jump Game more than the flat game and I am sure other trainers will tell you more.

Point 1 That will depend mostly what type of horse it is for example a Sprinter will recover quicker than a Stayer bur I generally say around 20 days give a day or so but it is easier to check your horse's Stats bar and Condition bar GREEN if full its raring to go.

Point 2 The game does not give you great horse's to start but now and again it gives you a horse who will win a group race but mostly Handicappers and very moderate Horses that might win a seller or Claimer but that's a risky business and you might be outbid in the Auction.

Point 3 again this will depend on what type of horse Flat Or Jump best way to know again click on your horse and then the little box top left of your horse's Stats for detailed Stats and the Top Bar in your horse's stats is the Potential Bar a 2yo or young jumper Potential bar are more darker green than light but has the horse races and gets older you will notice the bar getting more light green that means the horse is getting better and improving when its all light Green your horse has reached its peak once you notice its getting Dark again this means the horse will start losing its form and time to retire I would say send to stud but you want to send it to stud with Full Potential.

Point 4 Makes no difference but Good Colts are good for stud but Mares I would say are more important has you can breed these with your best stallions.

Point 5 Always check the stamina bar this will give a good indication of what distance the horse will be happy with a small Stamina Bar Means it would more likely be 5f to 1m horse the bigger the stamina bar the further it would like.

Point 6 there is always a auction with horse's every couple of days sometimes unraced horse's and theres a big 2yo Auction at the Beginning of every season for you to buy horses.

Point 7 I always use Simple Training Mode horse's are trained to Fitness Automatically.

I only play the flat game so im happy to answer your Q's, its just my opinion though.

1. I usually race my horses once a month to give them time to recover, if I start racing them every 2-3 weeks some of them burn out by the end of the season and I like to keep horses going for the breeders cup or Melbourne cup races. This is only for 3 yeay-olds and upwards, I only usually race my 2yo's 3-4 times.

2. Always try and put your horses in roughly the right race from the average breeding distance. Read the jockey instructions after each race too as they will tell you if the distance was right or maybe to step up in trip ect. Start off in maidens then move up to listed/group class if they win those. If not you can go to handicaps. If the horse is rated 110+ then you should enter it listed/group races and perhaps start breeding from it when you want to retire it.

3. I usually race my horses until they are 5 with the odd one going on until they are 6. After this age they usually decline but you do get the occasional freak that will keep winning Group 1's at 8/9 years old.

4. It doesn't really matter, it's always nice to have a bunch of talented stallions and mares for breeding but as a newbie just concentrate on getting one decent horse to start breeding from. Once you own a decent horse build a breeding barn and start producing you own superstars, that's the best way to get good horses.

5. Yes sometimes they do. As I said above read the jockeys feedback after a race and he may tell you to go for another distance. I've had several horses that have won 1 mile 2, 1 mile 4 and 2 mile races in a season.

6. Usually every Thursday there is a good auction where you can buy decent horses to start you off you might have to sell a couple of horses that you own first, At the start of a new season there is also an auction where you can buy horses.

7. I just plan on the simple training mode where the computer just trains the horses for me, I think most on here use that mode too.

These are really good tips, as I havn't played V5 in quite some time. I don't remember having to locate your stable and how does one set location in V6? I looked in the help file but am clueless as usual. Any info will be appreciated. Thanks
