I make myself two horsebooks, a universal one and a game save specific one. Both of which are made using Microsoft Excel. The universal one lists all my horses I ever had by earnings along with sires and dams listed by earnings of their progeny. (I believe that is what you are looking for). I also list stakes wins and other statistics for what I've done as a trainer. It takes a little bit of work but very good at seeing whole picture.

It isn't the best way to do it, but it is the only way to do it in excel.
