Post Re: League Weekly reaction
I'd love to do some commentary for the league but I don't have the time with work.
I did a small bit before when working for a radio station.
You've got to do your research, look at the silks and learn off the trainers and who's riding each horse etc.
I know commentary is not easy but getting the name of the race wrong is a big no no.

My name is Peter btw. Jupiter Jimmy is a name of a horse that ran in the 90's.

Hi Peter.
Yes MJ made a mistake but since this is a game and we are not playing for sheep stations then I think your call is out of bounds! I haven't communicated with MJ yet but I believe he would be very embarrassed by his mistake - sinking the slipper like that will only discourage other people to volunteer and may well discourage MJ to keep on calling - and he is doing a great job as a VOLUNTEER!

Peter - You should try just doing a few calls at home to compare the difference calling SO6 to actual racing. Record it and then play it back to yourself.
I agree with what you are saying but like you - we are all leading very busy lives and I have 100% no time to do any research - All my calls are 'meat grinder' calls - last Saturday for example I spent 6 hours at football first off as team manager for the B grade then watching and supporting the A grade - then I came home to my partner making me an amazing dinner and I start my first red and my first call- I pump as many calls as I can before dinner (its not just calls, if I am lucky enough the rough video is clear enough to read to do the call - if not I have to download the video to get a clearer picture - this takes time - I then have to upload the audio then send it off to Gray who embeds my audio to the video) - then afterwards when I believe I have given enough attention to my GF then I jump back in (half cut) and pump as many more calls as I can til probably 1am.
Then I did a couple more calls on Sunday morning before I went to work - then some more calls Sunday night from around 10.30pm til 1am and then I got a couple of more calls off on Monday morning before I went to work.

Peter, it's a pity you can't do a few calls each week - I am happy for you to call any of my group races. For the promotion of this great game it would be cool if we had an actual experienced race caller doing a few calls each week.

Doug.

Personally I think a lot of the commentary is really good. I would rather have commentary than none.

I'd take them dead heats any day of the week :-)
Well done and remember, better win with a dead heat than to lose on a protest :-)

Peter,
I very much apologize for this. My mistake. I wrote the name of the race down incorrectly on my paper that I write information for the race as well as the horses in the race on. I didn't pick up on it and that's my fault. I put a lot more care into making sure that I get the names of all the horses right each race (which isn't always the easiest thing) that I wasn't focused on the name of the race. I'll put more care into it next time. I try to do as much research into each race as possible, such as what races the horses are coming out of and who is riding/training them. Sometimes I'm caught in the heat of the race to remember to say some of the stats I right down, but I devote much of my time to calling each race as well as I can. But I don't usually catch mistakes. Sometimes I'll slip up at the beginning or have an awkward pause, but I'll redo the call. But I didn't realize that I said the wrong name of the race. Thank you for picking up on that. Any advice/critiques that a young race caller like me can get are always important.
And I look forward to calling the Aintree St Leger next week!

It was a terrifying call... Couldn't believe my eyes that he was holding on to the lead still. And then that close finish nearly ended me. Worst part about it, I still had one more race to call. I barely had a voice left for the final race. But a scintillating race overall.

NHC - Great Day 1 2 in the Henessy

Only one place to start and thats Hennessy Gold Cup Handicap Chase I Knew Douglas Barber
was well in and if he finished upright he would take alot of beating ran a stormer. got the 1,2 as well
never dreamt that was possible Stevensons Rocket has been poor most of the season but has come good of
late and ran a stomer too. Just delighted with that performance.

Never Surrender has been shocking all season I was running out of ideas for her the drop in trip helped her
must have got her completely wrong in Trials as i have her down as a 3 mile Hurdler and she goes and wins
the EBFTA Mares Chase G3 at 2m4

Plenty of places too today and Cleopatra is getting closer to winning

Thats now 14 out of my jumps team of 30 who have won races certainly doing better than thought

UKRA
ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh thought i had my 1st g1 win of the season Brave SAND VIXEN made all
but just got caught in the final strides well done to David RED BRICK LANE ran well in the PDJC
a worthy 3rd he is there or thereabouts but will find it tough to score a g1 now. I should never
Have run Order of st George in the Welsh leger she stays 2 Miles and this was too short she will be back.

My stayers are doing great and more success this week for Azz De Mei who stuck on well to
win the Welsh Gold Cup and just got to Colins horse (Great Run Satwa Katy). Azz De Mei looks a big player
in the Gold Cup now. I spent most of my time over the last 2 years on my epsom classic horses
I should have stuck to the stayers they are shining and spent least time on them a little ironic :P

Well done all the winners and placers
Thanks to the team Handicappers & Commentators you all do a great job

Well done all winners and placers this week :)

Also, a BIG well done to all the race callers especially MIKE, great job mate :)
Everybody makes mistakes, don't worry about it.

Matt

Agree dont apologies Mike we love your comms you bring colour to the league

To be frank getting really miffed with just the small few who are constantly whinging
about one thing or another if you realized how much time these good people put into
this you would not be so quick to moan I know as i used to be heavily involved and it
takes ages to put all of this together every week and they do it for NOWT.

A Bit of Graciousness and gratitude would not go a miss.

im just fed up of that sort of negativity its not needed and these people do not deserve one
bit of it.

I probably should not say anything but im Irish anyway apologies rant over i feel better now .

Was going to sit down this morning and write the newsletter, but I am so incensed I am going to knock it on the head.

If you haven't got nice things to say about people Peter keep your sodding mouth shut!

Doug: What do you mean about George Formby?
