Until a few weeks ago I had never had a sprint G1 winner in SO4 (I've had the game since the day it came out in 2009 [I think]) so I decided to start games on easy mode and find sprinters given to me at the beginning rated 85+ if they won G1's on easy they were transferred into my main game on hard mode and raced for a season if they won a G1 in this game they'd be retired to stud to breed. I have gone a bit sprinter mad and most of my current 3yo's are 5-7f horses! But I have had two homebred G1 sprint winners and seem to be breeding some nice types now. It may be seen as cheating by some but I just enjoy having horses who will win every G1 in the game and for now that's all I want out of it.

Sprinters are a nightmare! I've had a few G1 winning ones, but nothing even close to being dominant. My best recent sprinter was a bloody 7f horse! Needless to say she never actually won a G1, although was placed in a lot of 6f races.

breeding sprinters is a nightmare there best distance breeding indicator goes up 1f every year in breeding barn
so you really only get a few years before they start churning out 7f horses which defeats the object when breeding sprinters

Spent a few hours there breeding sprinters and had more success than a full days worth yesterday by totally changing my approach. Havent done much comparing in the trials yet however my sprint breeds have went from useless to consistent group class early in there lineage.

Post Re: Breeding Questions
ARGHHH! So I feel like im going insane. I finally seem to have the breeding down nicely and feel that I have set my own spin on the information provided in the forums when I come across this mare in game with phenomenal times over 6f in the opening season. I hunt it down using techniques shared in the forums and there it is sitting in the breeding barn....Anyways I have thrown so many stallys at it I have lost rack. Tried 5f-1m2f stallys all with respectable times in game and proven multiple group one performers. I even tried throwing the stallys Thunderspark uploaded at it (Little Helggate, Signus and Mithras) yet they all flop. The foals come out retaining nowhere near the potential of the parents and I even tried playing through to see if any are late bloomers but they just are plain terrible.

It leaves me with the question, are some horses just outright no good for breeding stock?

I have loaded hundreds of games now searching for new stock and this mare was head and shoulders above anything else I had seen which is why I hunted it even though I found simply chasing sires much easier.

Any advice much appreciated guys.

From my extensive breeding...billion and billions of years of breeding according to PJ :), you will get a monster horse 1 in every 15-20 pairings if you breed a very good mare with a very good stallion. So with that one mare you had, you would have to be lucky to get a monster if you are breeding it only once. An above average foal, a decent one, is probably in the 20-25% range.

To help you out here is something I uploaded. It might give you ideas for SO5.

Basically it's one of my stallion (Mithras) bred to 11 or 12 fillies/mares. The mating is all done and the date is Nov 7 or 8. You just need to advance a day for the foals to be born.

What is interesting about this file is that I don't know what the foals will be since they are not born yet. So the potential of the foals are a question mark. If you play it out, you will notice that a lot of the foals will be horrible even though, these mares are top mares. Getting a monster horse is basically about luck. But using good stallion and good mares increases your probability of getting something good.

Cheers for the reply mate. Thing with thismare which was baffling me is I through the stallys at it numerous times, pasted through the two seasons to get to the foal then in some instances I even pasted through a few more to check if it blossomed in later seasons. I had bred the mare well over 50 times as I have been off work and had some time to kill. I deleted the game with the mare on a little while ago as it drove me crazy lol Kept thinking one more go at it...

If it doesn't produce anything decent after 50 tries then its a dud. I have mares like that and you can't change it. So just move on to the next mare/stallion.

Yeah, many years ago. Stop playing around the time the on-site MB disappeared - so that would be about 05-06. Silly Larry.

Aye, lost a lot of players around the time he dcided to do that. It kinda killed the community and took a long time to build a decent player base up again. Game actually had bags of potential but he always said from the start it was just a pet project for him. Guess he finally got sick of caring for it lol

Hey! Some SKers here! :)

Did stop it too, too many options disappeared and got bored from it, now playing Trackking and waiting for SO5.
