Post Gallop Trial Settings?
Hi I'm new to game and new to horse racing. I'm messing around with manual training and am wondering why/when you use the "Gallop Trial Settings" in this mode?

Anyone? For manual training what is the purpose of watching your horses "Gallop"? Does this help with the training/development process? I went through a season and my horses just didn't seem to improve in quality so I"m now wondering if I needed to use the "Gallop" option to help in their development.

Best I can tell about progression is you get some during their first few races as a 2yo flat and 3yo jump, though some will make zero progression regardless. The 2yo flat progress again as they turn 3yo and then generally with each age progression up to the point the horse reaches peak maturing for racing and then the yearly cycles will see them getting worse in terms of potential, they may age to be better jumpers.

You can augment this with agility , break or jumps and with speed and stamina focuses though it is not easy to say how effective this is, I seem to find it is different from horse to horse, some make real improvement some don't, nothing is fixed.

Gallops do not mess about with too much, I use the three 'lot' blue Amber red method mostly to attain fitness or a skill and focus depending on what I'm doing with them, so my 1yo flats tend to stay Amber all year with a speed or stamina focus, my jumps game they are all schooled over onstacles when not old enough to race etc.

Not sure how effective they are to manually attain fitness or even if this is the intention, as Amber or red usually leads to sickness injury, but when a horse is fit and if I am not racing them I have used to get and idea where they like to run and how they measure against others in their breeding class, though it does not reflect race speed from what I see, so if their is something more to this I am missing it also :)

When you say you use the three 'lot' blue Amber red method...what is this method? I'm not sure I have seen a forum on this topic. To be honest I think i have only been able to find 1 or 2 posts about manual training and those were very basic with very little information.

I have been putting my horses into "amber" training right after a race for a few weeks until about 14 days before their next scheduled race and then I bump them up to Red, but my results have pretty bad. But then again these are pretty low rated starter horses. I don't use the "blue" button at all during the season.

I'm not sure if a lot of people manually train....I know a few do.....so keep battling away and hopefully someone will come into the forums soon.

I say to give plenty of room between races to make sure they are ready to run - yes you are right, your standard of horse is low at the start of each game and is for quite a while but you will get on top of it.
Make sure you run your horses in the lowest rated races as possible....forget about any race with a trophy next to its name for now.
Race them at their distance that the game says suits them.........keep an eye on how they run - the advice might be perfect but then again you might notice they need a little shorter or longer.
My last thought is to try and place your horses in small fields where you'll get prize money regardless of how good or bad your horse runs or where it's got a chance of at least running 5th in a field of 6 or 7.
It's not just about managing your horses - it's also about managing your bank balance as well :)

I manually train all my games, main flat, jump and my three breeding games also. My approach, and I usually dominate all game g1's year in and year out as follows: there is some schedule dependencies in here.

Flat

1yo - Amber all year with a focus speed or stamina as horse requires
2yo - Amber until the end of the jump season when I start looking for races for them, I switch red circa 15 to 20 days prior for the first run which as they start Amber is usually more than enough. Then as the 2yo flat season is short I stay Amber between races for the most part, though usually 2/5 days after each race I set to blue. Day before the race I go red to Amber day of the race Amber to blue, back to Amber post initial rest period and back to training subject to next race. Given your all done by October time at 2yo, I tend to let them be blue for the rest of the year, agility sometimes on my distance horses.
3yo - I leave them blue until around mid March, I then go Amber, from April i switch red before end of flat season, as the 3yo season starts early with the 2000 guin. I then run the season along the front following basis, with a little more Amber between races as again 3yo season for me is short ends with the st ledger.

From red condition plan 25 days to full fitness.
From Amber conditIon plan 15 days to full fitness
Min 7 day gap between races
Min 1 day blue post race
Switch to Amber day before race assuming horse is green and the training confirms he is fully fit not a little short. Then switch blue on the day of the race so they are set for their post race rest.
When not racing either blue or Amber if I am looking to add speed or stamina.

4yo+ - these tend not to have long gaps between races as I like to cover the Japan, Hong Kong and Dubai races after the English schedule. They get a little gap from Jan/Feb to April so I use a lot more blue between races so not to exhaust them. The 25/15 day marker with very active race management so I do not screen up I then use the next race filter to manage when my training need to kick in.

Jump

Pretty much the same, and this is only relevant if you play a jumps only game, as horses come through at 2yo not 1yo. So basically same as above and again seasons on jumps have some big gaps where you can do schooling over fences. I also find my jumpers are slower to get fit, so add five days to the time I trigger training.

Gallops; back to the original point I use as I said when not racing them, just for some trailing, but I also use the export feature for this as my main motivation now is the online league not so much the game itself.

Hope that helps.

Josh

Wow, thank you, thank you! Very helpful, I'll use this as a template going forward.
