Honestly I don't think many of them mean a lot. There are explanations next to each stat...

Potential is obvious.

Battling qualities is obvious and whilst it is rare for this to be high it is possible with the injection of game horse blood.

Constitution: is how well it can take racing, but I haven't really noticed that this being low affects the horse that much.

Confidence: again I haven't really noticed that this affects them that much.

Cruising burst: No real difference between mine.

Extra speed rating: No real difference.

Deterioration potential: this affects some more than others. But in general this does seem to affect horses; if you have a high deterioration potential you're less likely to have a long career.

Enthusiasm: no real difference.

Finish application: this does differ between horses, but there doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason. I have multiple winners with 0 and 100% of this.

Consistency: no real effect.

Distance adaptability: no real effect. I've had horses with really low distance adaptability who have won over huge distance differences.

Going/Surface adaptability: some difference, but if the horse is good enough it will tend to win despite the ground.

Juvenile constitution: no real difference

Maturity rate: all of mine have 0 I assume 0 means that they mature slowly and 100 means they mature fast as it is the rate of maturity. But mine win at 2 and some are still winning at 8.

Training adaptation: not noticed a difference; I think this only really comes into play if you use manual training.

Jump ability potential: big difference, if low the horse isn't a great jumper (there are exceptions)

Jump speed potential: big difference, if high you tend to have a really good jumps horse.

Quirks: I've had one or two with quirks, but never noticed that this is affected by the bar.


These are my observations from playing the game and comparing my own horses.

I really think the bars are meaningless

Oh I see, you want to define them. I'm still very much in doubt that many of them make any difference to a horse.

All of the bars are representations of combinations of actual horse parameters and none are meaningless. The level of the effect of some parameters may be very low however or the parameter may be generated from a number of horse variables and it may be difficult to actually isolate the expected effect in racing (or the actual effect may not be the expected) or even define it very well. But they all have some kind of effect and are not simply void stats. So these parameters do not usualy refer directly to individual horse variables. There is meant to be some mystery to it all. If each horse had a variable directly related to these parameters then the game would become predictable.

I preferred the game without these stats but people wanted them in so this is a half way house solution. Of some use (in some cases!) but eventually you have to experiment with horses.

Following on from what atigger said the quality/class of a horse over the conditions is the most important factor and may appear to nullify certain parameters. For example horse 'A' may be better than horse 'B' but horse B has the greater cruising burst.

Towards the end of the race horse 'A' may produce a much better cruising burst than horse 'B' because it will probably have been travelling more comfortably than horse 'B' and have built up potential while horse 'B' has had it's potential drained and be unable to produce much at all. This is quite a simple illustration but you get the idea.

This is one example of why horses are better watched than their stats studied. Having said this I'm sure some breeders have noticed certain stats are useful when choosing horses for breeding.

I think for example if your horse was a 5f champion let say he or she had 100% speed bar, but on race day the horse pulled & reefed all the through the race yet some horse from behind comes storming at the last 50m and wins the race yet your horse was flat out running 3rd, but the horse that won the race the burst bar was high, that explains the theory about the bars.
