What is the breeding season for the horses in this game?

All year round, as long as the schedule has races for those dates then you can set horses to breed.

Probably because you are in first season. There won't be any game horses to breed from until 2nd season

I don't think you can breed in the last 5 months of the racing season.

you can breed up to 2 weeks before end of season but breed ASAP earlier the better IMO

Yeah first season I spend a bit of time in auctions looking for decent horses that may not win races and prize money for me, they go into the barn and I just start producing yearlings that might make a profit or randomly be decent. Normally I look for 6 year olds and up with graded wins earlier in their career, making sure they are cheap (under 300k each, I usually grab 4-6 of them).

Have to clear that barn by season two or three, make room for the horses that are really good and could produce a monster, but it starts me off well enough and I've had success doing it this way.
