simpleminds wrote: I would say Maiden winners in Big fields will be group 1 if you have the big stables in so to start at 105 is to low you don't want him entering a Handicap on second run he should be aimed at Dubai or listed group races looking at the Winter Derby Johns Newcomer is looking at 130 because the horse in second was rated 128 last season Pauls Horse Animal Kingdom was Third he will be or might be rated in the mid 120's because the horse back in fourth was Devious Diva who was rated 120 last season now all the horse's behind these will be Handicapped higher than would of been in a Maiden.
This is why I never have a runner in the Winter Derby or Sprint Cup unless I know my horse's will be up to group class so you can't give a maiden winner a rating of 105 that has won in a big field it would be at least a 120 Horse in some cases not all but mostly perhaps a bigger Spread below the front few might make it fairer but giving the winner a lower rating is in my opinion not the way to go.
Gray The ratings are too high. Once again people will be griping about their marks. All the while we get to see the same 5 trainers win every middlin' to big race. Whilst us sub par trainers will be struggling to find good handicap spots in races our horses belong in because our marks are too high from first week maiden runs. Like middle America the average trainer is being forgotten. Either lower the ratings a lot or raise the handicap level for every handicap race. On that note when can I expect to see the ratings for my horses please?

 Re: Weekly Reaction
Got to agree with Sirius last season the people in the middle suffered. If you had really bad horses or really good horses you were fine, but if your horse finished midfield then you had very little chance of a win the whole season.
NH has a better spread already there are 12 different winners in NH versus 7 on the flat

Last season if you finished top 10 in maidens you were rated above 110 so yes rate the the top 5 in the race above 110 but give the other horses a chance of going down the handicap route. Personally mine will be going into group races even if they may finish last as I want a runner in these races and NH is my focus. We could look at implementing a no handicaps for top 5 trainers if people want it but it can only be done from next season. Anyway its a new season and hopefully everything will run well Back to the horses Super Duper ran well over 1m4 and that looks about my best on the flat

 Re: Weekly Reaction
I suggested that years ago Ghost having a Max limit and Min rated the problem I see is the Top 5 trainers I don't know if we can say top 5 trainers Jim Harrison I think was a surprise last season and both Alan Macdonald and J Shea have started will this season the newbies can struggle first season but come back stronger next season.
Sirius I would like to of offered you the flat handicapper I was after one for weeks but Dangersteve is doing it could I interest you in the jumpers handicap role.

 Re: Weekly Reaction
The way top 5 can work is the top 5 in the current logs can't enter handicaps so it will fluctuate throughout the season. I don't have time to code it in now so not an option for this season but it can be done for next season if people want it. This would be for the flat

 Re: Weekly Reaction
Thanks Gray. I apologize. This bug about the rating just swept me up all of sudden along with the urge to do the ratings myself. I will gladly deal with the cards dealt to me this league. I'd try it next league only if my idea is implemented. I would adjust all marks for returning horses to fit my guide...
1st week maiden winners ----------------- Older - 105 -110 3yo - 100 - 105 2yo - 95 - 100 ----------------
Stakes races for these groups would be 5 points higher for each group.
I did the Monday card. First time I'd ever done ratings. I rather enjoyed it. I watched the last furlong of every race, considered the impressiveness of the winner's performance and then considered the trainers of the top finishers to also help with the ratings. As I made ratings for a race I kept to a 1 length = 1 point beaten lengths adjustment for the top half of the field and made it 2 to 1 for the bottom half. I like what I came up with.
I have full faith in Steve to get er done and he has my full support.

This would be for the flat Say from week 3 or 4 if u in the top 5 then u cant run in H'caps. Either that or we need more Listed or Condition races, so the top 5 trainers cant run in them and if u horse wins one of these races then u cant run in them again so they would have to go up a grade to group races. It would be like a stepping stone.
