Post Cheltenham Festival micro site news thread
Doug and myself are going to record a brief 10-15 minute preview show to start off each days live stream for the Cheltenham Festival.

We are going to record all these on Friday as soon after nominations close as possible as we obviously have to record them before we record our commentaries as by then we will know the results.

Please leave any info on here about your horses, their chances, your hopes, opinions on dangers to your hotpot sure thing, reasons why certain horses are not running, or even just any ideas you might have about the possible winners of the big races.

Also if anyone wants to send an audio soundbite about their runners or have a brief telephone interview with Doug or myself that will be great.

Hopefully will all add a bit of flavour and tension to the proceedings

Cheltenham Spotlight

Trainer - Paul Rhodes
Stable - Curragh View Stable & Stud
Festival Runners - 25
Festival Banker with another trainer - Redundant Pal - John Morgan

Bankers of the week
Betway Queen Mother Champion Chase - Mack The Knife
Unbeaten Multiple grade winner and a grade one winner winning
3 from 3 starts always just does enough to win. Cheltenham should
bring more out of him he loves the track and should his jumping go ok
it will take one heck of a good one to beat him.

Weatherbys Champion Bumper G1 - Phillipa Vayle
Classy bumper horse who has looked a star all season still recovering from
the shocking ride her jockey gave her last week costing her her unbeaten
record. Looks likely to be a small field again this week just hope there is some
pace on in the race or she takes it up if so she will be hard to beat.

Each way squeak
Sky Bet Supreme Novices Hurdle G1 - The Demolisher
Bought in during the transfer window has not hit the heights of the
others I have transferred in this has been the target all along. He has had
4 runs and placed twice improving and not without a chance here.

Timico Cheltenham Gold Cup Chase - Turning On The Style
Another who was transferred in during the window has had 4 runs but only
completed twice finishing 2nd and 4th she has not really shown her class
yet but has a decent shout in this she is a course specialist only hope she
jumps round

Handicap Good thing
Vincent O'Brien County Hurdle - Able Kate
At the start she was my No1 2 mile hurdler that division have been very
poor to say the least but she is rated 112 and at the weight must have 'a
huge chance. Track and distance perfect.

Pertemps Network Final Handicap Hurdle - Mahlitto
4 places from his 9 starts including a 4th place in one of the Qualifiers now rated
117 has to have a decent chance at the weights.

Long Shot with a Chance
Fred Winter Juv. H'cap Hurdle - Hey Nando
Undoubtedly the worse horse I have entered in the league bought in
as my Triumph Hurdle No2 back now against the 4 year olds and off a
rating of 79 has to have a very good chance.

Year Of The National Hunt Chase - Melbourne Cup King
Another very poor horse 9 starts best finish was an 8th place have not worked out
his best distance just about gets in this with the distance rule I have no idea if the
step up in trip will suit but off a rating of 102 may have a chance.

Lay of the week
Stan James Champion Hurdle - Sally Army
Classy Chaser thrown in here as no other race for her and my 2 mile hurdlers are just
no where near good enough id be amazed if she makes the placings

Paul Redundant Pal is a non runner, would never go a yard on that ground. I'm happy because I can run Asian Maze instead.

I've got 16 runners going to Cheltenham. No bankers but they all should run well.

Asian Maze is probably my best chance on day 1 in the champion hurdle.

On day 2 my best chance would be Rogers Princess in the Stayers though Loving Around is my best horse the ground might catch her out one day, needs soft ground.

My best horse on day 3 is in the triumph, I just had a run off between crazy horse and polishing and the crazy won it so he goes for the triumph.

Bramhill Rose won the shoot out with My Princess Laura so she goes for the Gold Cup, she's always been great when I trial her for this race but her form so far has not been good enough to win it.

My Best Horse Present Abbey goes for the Paul Moores but will hate the ground she's got to run in it because she has no other race to go for.

I've been having a look at the Gold Cup field and I cant see any front runners, it's going to make it interesting.

If you can see any of my horses in all that muddy crap, they have little too no prospects this week, without some aspect of divine intervention. Notes on the race card rate my chances :)

Edit - notes will be accurate when updated tomorrow, some changes required to entries.

Here's my thoughts on my Cheltenham donkeys

Coral Cup R10 - Bosbury - Heavy ground is no problem but is running from way of the handicap. No chance
National Hunt Chase R12 - Tunisia - 4m may be on the short side but will run his race
Fred Winter R13 - Schumacher - Running out of the handicap and has not run well for a long while
Pertemps Final R16 - Ledbury - Decent ground and stables best chance at the festival
Brown Advisory Stable Plate H'Cap R19 - Ivington - Would prefer better ground but not without place claims
Kim Muir R21 - Bromyard - There for a day out, nothing else
County Hurdle R23 - Letton - Has won this season but is out of her depth here
Martin Pipe R26 - Tobago - Won last week, will love the heavy ground, can go in today. Chance
Paul Moores R28 - Ukraine - Outclassed, if his mark goes up before the national he will still run out of the handicap so may as well take her chance

Post Re: Cheltenham Festival micro site news thread
I don't think my horses can win against John and Pauls horses, but I am hoping for a good few places as I trialled all my NH horses over soft ground, so they may do all right in the heavy going.

Edit - The problem with a lot of my horses is consistancy. They can win one week and finish 9th the next week.

I don't think ny of my horses are G1 horses, they are probably at best G2 or G3 horses. Most are too good to be compettetive in handicaps but not good enough for G1s.

A quick run down of my Cheltenham hopefuls:

R3 Ultima Hcap Chase: Daylight Robbery - Has run some decent races this season but has also thrown in a few clunkers. Place claims if on a going day.
R5 Glenfarclas Cross Country: Grey Skies - Not sure about the trip and is only running to give me an interest in the race. Not out of it if she stays.
R7 Close Bros Nov Hcap Chase: Flaming Ted - A long way out of the handicap and running to give me some interest in the race.
R9 RSA Chase: King Kong - No chance, just making up the numbers.
R10 Coral Cup: Sea Pigeon - Stiff 2m5f will suit and conditions hold no fears. Hopeful of a big run and one of my best chances of the week.
R12 Ramses: National Hunt Chase - Main target is the Grand National so having a prep here. Has a good chance despite top weight but really hoping he gets well stuffed tbh.
R16 Pertemps Hurdle Final: Mozart & Imhotep - Mozart looks like my best chance and has an ew squeak. Imhotep has shown nothing since qualifying and is making up the numbers.
R17 Ryanair Chase: Fairy King - Really frustrating performer. Gets outpaced over 2m3f and doesn't stay 2m4f. Likely to be going as well as anything turning into the straight before dropping out of contention up the hill.
R19 Brown Advisory Stable Plate: All Fired Up - Will probably find a few of these too good but not completely out of it.
R21 Kim Muir: King Spruce - Has been pulled up 4 times in 7 races. Might be well in as a result but not getting my hopes up. Another P is more likely.
R23 County Hurdle: Looby Lou - Season target. Decent C&D form and has run well on heavy but might have too much weight.
R25 Gold Cup: Mirage - I didn't think I had a Gold Cup horse this season until she won the Cotwold Chase. Likes the track, distance and going shouldn't be a problem and is my best chance in the race since Northern Soul finished 2nd a few seasons ago.
R26 Martin Pipe Hcap Hurdle: Hello Gorgeous - Better than he has shown of late (almost ran off the track last run) and capable of causing an upset. Solid ew chance.
R27 Grand Annual: Bold Lad - Nice weight and track suits but would expect him to find a few of these too quick.

My Chelts attack...

R4 Stan James - Henny Hughes front runner, who might just sneak the march and be difficult to catch on the going, but lets be honest out of his class really.

R9 RSA - Trop Fort - Frustrating novice who on maiden run in GR2 came a good 2nd , but nothing since, hold up horse and doubt will make up the ground with the going.

R11 Queen Mother - My Name is Frank, been my best horse so far, finished in front of Uncle Ernie, but beaten into 3rd twice by the machine "Mack the Knife" place chance if a few dont make it round.

R28 Paul Moores - Libranno Li up against usual suspects but place chance, stays on his feet most of the time, dont really want a good run as this will go to the Grand National and has enough weight as it is.

I guess I might fair better in the handicaps with chances of decent showings from Masked Karla (R19 Brown Adv), Greyemkay (R21 Kim Muir) Blue Bru (R23 Vincent O'Brian) & Karla (R26 Martin Pipe).

But lets be honest, The Mullens, Nicholls & Henderson's of our league will prob clean sweep them all....heavy going or not.

A quick run down of my Cheltenham unhopefuls:

R3 Ultima Hcap Chase: Mr Man - No chance, mark is too high, ground too soft and as a hold up horse will likely get pulled up.
R5 Glenfarclas Cross Country: Baila Money - Been running well over slightly shorter and has a really nice weight but the ground has scuppered her chances.
R7 Close Bros Nov Hcap Chase: General Kutuzov - Not good enough and ground is wrong anyway.
R10 Coral Cup: Hard Spun - Still on a slightly high mark and ground a worry. Won't finish last but won't win either.
R11 Queen Mother Champion Chase: Viking Warrior - Out of depth but will probably show up till the third last.
R12 National Hunt Chase: Musical Delorian - Out of handicap but ground and trip are perfect so could easily suprise and get in the money.
R13 Fred Winter Juv. H'cap Hurdle: Bollin Man - Nicely weighted and has an each way squeak but the ground is a concern.
R18 World Hurdle: Man Bridgefield - Much better than his form or rating would indicate and if the racekit doesn't pull him up could really suprise and run into the money but John's horse looks a certainty.
R19 Brown Advisory Stable Plate: Vanguard Dream - Has won and placed over course and distance already this season and has a nice light weight. I expect him to run a huge race and lead over the last but the last half furlong might catch him out.
R21 Kim Muir: Mr Rowdy - Won't be inconvenienced by the ground but too far out of the handicap to have any real chance.
R23 County Hurdle: Baralinka King - Should really need further than this but keeps fading at the end of longer races. On a very nice mark and it is entirely possible that the trainer has been an idiot for the previous 9 weeks and he may suprise. If he does win it won't be the result of a carefully planned coup!
R25 Gold Cup: Man Forest - Absolute no hoper and giving me a runner.
R26 Martin Pipe Hcap Hurdle: Man Gold - Has been a huge disappointment as always works brilliantly at home. Is on a good mark despite being well out of handicap but the ground is totally wrong.
R27 Grand Annual: Philipstown Vienna - Ground a big concern but on a nice mark and will go close especially if there is a strong gallop. Possibly my best hope of the week.
R28 Paul Moores Grade 1: Pampelonne - Way out of depth but will stay and handle the ground.
