Post I have a Question & would like peoples opinion on a solution
The Question:
Why are the races being posted later and later to YouTube?

My Opinion:
It is commentary that is the bottleneck. There may be others factors that I am unaware of.
Gray, Nick and myself do what races we can but the biggest bulk of commentary falls on Martin's shoulders. Martin, like many people works for a living so does what he can in the evenings.

A Possible Solution:
Should there be a limit to the number of races that need human commentary. Use SO7's built in commentary for about half the races.

How to Decide which races get human commentary, that is one of the things to be discussed.
Ideally, I would like to see a mixture of races being given human commentary, some group races but also some handicap races.
Maybe limit human commentary to some day 1 and some day 2 races. If there are only two or three special races on day 3, they could be included.

I think that the late posting of races also affects the handicappers doing their job.

Does the late posting of races matter in the long run?

If day 3 races are being posted later to Youtube and handicaps updated later on TOM, that shortens the time people have to enter the next weeks races.

What do you think?

Post Re: I have a Question & would like peoples opinion on a solu
With this only being my first season I am probably not in the best position to comment but will anyway so that you can get a newbie's perspective.

I love the commentary, just as much for some of the banter as the actual race call itself as it humanises the game and gives it that personal touch and I think everyone does a fantastic job. It is something I would love to be able to do - I've tried and recorded myself and it is absolute drivel! So I really admire what you guys do.

That being said I don't think the League would lose anything if every race wasn't commentated on by a human. For example with the time difference here in Australia I watched Day 2 this week on the train on my way into work with no sound on and it was just as much a thrill and exciting to watch one of my horses get up as it is with sound.

So maybe just the bigger more prestigious races have the human commentary and the lesser races the SO7 built in commentary. If it helps with the smoother, quicker transition from one race week to the next then I think we all benefit.

Paul

Martin, I think your comms are great, the only reason I started this thread wa because I felt you were being overworked.

I didn't want you to feel disallusioned with all that was being asked of you.

I love the commentry but if it makes less work for everyone I'd be happy with some races having none.

The longer races I skip a bit too, unless I win then I watch a few times haha.

Maybe a soft rule, if race has less than X (5?) runners and/or is 'long' and not a big race we just skip it. My version of long is different to those in NH, so greator powers can decide that. Reason I'd skip those ones is you can save more time. Or someone could jump in and call the last mile (half mile)

Apologies all, been a mental week at work for me and I've literally been working well into the evening most nights so this week I haven't been able to assist Martin at all.
