 Re: How to....
From my understanding your horses shouldn't automatically be in an auction unless you have been entering them in claiming or selling races? If that is the case the answer is simple... don't enter them in selling or claiming races.
As for changing from c7 races to C4 etc. I'm not sure how your game is setup. It should be just a matter selecting those type of races from the schedule that you use to enter your horse into any of the races. Some horses can't enter certain races due to age, handicap etc. But it's not usually a problem going from say a C7 to a C4 race.

 Re: How to....
You can enter horses in any races you want C1-C7 as long as they're eligible. Sounds like you're entering them in sellers and claimers as the other poster said. The class of the race comes after the distance e.g. 7f C2 0-100 handicap for fillies and mares
The C... is the class of the race, just because you have started a new game doesn't mean you are restricted to only entering C7 races.
Also as the name of the C7 races SELLERS and CLAIMERS would suggest, if your horse wins another trainer can either buy or claim the horse out of your stable.

It sounds like you would basically like to start the game with better horses. For good or bad that’s how these racing game tend to work. You start with poor, or at best average horses and the idea is to slowly work your way up to having the best horses over a number of seasons of buying and selling. If you want a better horse straight away, start on easy and even if they don’t give you a reasonable horse, they give you enough cash to buy one that can race in C1-C4 races at least.
“erm i mean like everytime the horse has done well it seems to be put up for auction”
Still sounds like you are entering claiming and selling races. As others have said if the horse does well in these races it will get sold. One way to avoid this problem is to start a game and set it to the AUS races. As far as I can tell, they don’t have claiming or selling races there so you won’t have to worry.

 Re: How to....
Also if you start a game on easy and get an 85+ rated horse it will usually win G1's for you. Check the horses' ratings before entering them so you don't waste good horses in bad races.

 Re: How to....
If you put your horse in a seller by mistake and it wins, you dont
have to buy it back. All you do is click on horses name, enter £3 million
in the auction and click the A. It will say " Horse Already Entered "
It will have a £3 million reserve on it and no one will buy it.
