At the risk of sounding horribly sarcastic and condescending; have fewer horses, or an amount you can manage?!
Or go to the decs. screen every day so you don't miss races.

Like Supercat said just managed what you feel comfortable with.

I am not really sure what you are having problems with, is it just getting horses ready for race? Planning ahead for meets?

I generally do the following to make it easier for myself ;

Below the horses that you own are some 'double down arrows' next to 'today's meeting' which will expand the owned horses window which makes it easier to see more horses. Click the course underneath todays meeting to narrow the window.

I always sort by 'Next Dec.' (between LWR/R and status) so that my next race takes priority on the list, then the second and so forth. That enables me to keep tab of which horses require training at specific times.

I always make sure the horses are ready for intense training(red) 6-7 days ahead of race day, I find they more than not peak the day before race day (I do my own training).

That is how I managed a large amount of horses, although to be honest I do prefer no more than 12 at a time because anymore than 12 are generally crap horses for me at present.

When starting out as said already just manage what you are comfortable with. I tried to have 100 horses when starting out in SO4 but it doesn't do you any favours at all. I can now manage 50+ horses all the time but you need to get used to the game first.

Another thing to make managing your yard easier is using the notes option. When placing the pointer over a horses name you can press n and then write a note about that horse. So for eg I might put "6f evs" for a horse that wants 6f and prefers even pace. or "1m4 hu" for a horse that wants 1m4 and prefers to be held up. For my 2yos I only put notes on the ones ready to run, or that can run at 5 or 6f for the early season maidens. The others I check at the start of each month to see if their stat bars have changed at all.

have an excel spread sheet that has names f horses going downwards, and the month going across. mark in any races, or any changes in training, i tend to split my month across 10 cells

eg
SO SIRIUS is galloping most of teh time with a jumps sesh before running on the 25th,

horse name nv nv nv nv nv nv nv nv nv nv dc dc dc dc dc
siruis G G G C G G J G 25

very nerdy but makes organisation easier

The best advice I can give is to micro-manage as much as possible, and have a set routine you go through every single day. (Check training screen, declarations screen, enter recently raced horses in future races, withdraw horses if next days going doesn't suit etc....). Takes some time, but if you aren't the type to skip through the game quickly, it certainly means you don't miss anything.

Agreed GS63, I do something like that my self, It takes a long time to

get through a season but I play for pleasure, not just for the breeding

of monster horses.

My style of play too - its all about creating an "alternate reality racing world" to me, don't care if it takes me 2-3 months to get through a season, I enjoy watching the season pan out and I don't play in the league either.
