Post Breeding
Recently purchased SO5...great choice by me! :) Question, does the breeding part of this game put more weight on choosing the sire or the mare. I read where the autopsy of Secretariat had shown this magnificent
horse had a heart that weighed in at close to 22 lbs. This large heart generated a "heart score" of 180...largest in history. There is even a book called "The X Factor" which addresses other great thourobreds
on this topic.
Anyways, all can be "googled", my point is, according to studies...the "large heart" gene is passed through the X chromosome in the mare. So.......any thoughts?

Do you seriously think that a game would have gone into this much detail?! Also I don't think they can pin what gave Secretariat and Pharlap their enormous, but it was a vague educated guess.

I think a decent filly bred to a really good stallion can make good horses, some disagree. Read the posts on here and do some experimenting for yourself and see what you find out.

Post Re: Breeding
Well when I start a brand new game I concentrate solely on creating a sprinting line for the first few seasons and then extending outwards so it's nigh on impossible to find a decent mare or filly that is great over 5 furlongs at the beginning of a game. Usually i'm lucky if i can win a couple of class 2 handicaps or possibly a listed race with what I buy through the daily auctions.

My current game I did just that and retired my mare to the breeding barn with a rating of 95 and bred her with a group winning stallion with the fastest time over 6 furlongs at that point.

Result is probably the best ever colt I've produced in any game of the starters orders series. He's currently 10 for 10 with 8 group wins and a time of 56.52 in the Nunthorpe and absolutely dominates every race from the front. It's only 2015 in my game so I've got a brilliant Stallion to breed from in the future.

His half sister isn't too shabby either over 6 furlongs and her dam wasn't anything special. Fact is i'm gutted I only bred two mares with this stallion as it was obviously the games Northern Dancer.

I used to think it was weighted around 60/40 in favour of the stallion when breeding but now i'm inclined to believe its a lot lot more.

I haven't got very far on my game yet so can anyone confirm whether non-owned horses are available to breed with after more than one season in SO5?

Nope, non-owned horses are only in the breeding barn for one season for SO5.

Am upto 2018 in my game and the games superstar has just been retired to stud.. Candlelight 56 x G1 wins!! I could never beat him!! stud fee = £2,350,000!! Am sending all my 7f-1m6f mares to him as he will only be there for 1 season! after the farce in 2016 when i retired my best horses to stud forgetting to 1st retire to game pool got to try and create a few decent ones to start a new game with!
