Post Re: New League president required.
Gosh. What a difference a week makes.

Just a few points seeing as some seem to think I'm the one to beat.

First off I don't see how I will dominate anything. I have never taken two year olds seriously. Most of my horses aren't even exported at 2 and I don't see me winning many (any?) of those races. I have NO horses older than 3. So I won't be racing in (much less winning) any race that's 4+. So I can't see how I'll dominate. Between young kids/wife/career, SO5 is a pleasant diversion but hardly something I devote serious time to.

As I've mentioned before I haven't played much since January. I must have bred all of 5 horses since January and even those were an experiment. Believe me when I say I've hit a wall in playing :). And if you take into account I didn't play much in October/November because of professional exams than I can see quite a few who have put in much more time than me.

As for CK times, I've always said I've gone faster than my posted times. Part of the fun of competing in a brand new league is not knowing how fast the other stables are running. If you look at PJ's recent times well those are pretty amazing for 4 yr old +. What I don't understand is why those same horses aren't running well at 3 either unless there's something PJ isn't telling us .

BTW feel free to call me Andy .

Hi Andy good to hear from you

The way i do things is i train horses by age
or by distance 1 at a time

recently i have just trained 2yos at all distances before that it was older sprinters before that 3yo milers
then exported the 2yo in as older horses for breeding but did export some to trial not many
believe me i am not hiding anything i cant believe the times that some trainers are doing at epsom for 1m4
im struggling to beat 229.9 and some are doing 227 flat i am working on my 1m4f 3yo but am so far behind happy with all other ages and
distances the times i have posted iin stable tour are those horses (my most consistant horse) best times
on another thread i have my record ck times these are up to date and genuine

at least they will be competitive

to be honest i have 10 ttf files full of 2yo i have not even trialed as 4 or 5yos
i will keep them for next season
you could go on and on and you have to stop at some point
this training for the lge can be never ending

its what makes the game so great

I am not comfortable with being the overall league president. Don't really think we need the position either. Two presidents working together if need be is enough

Not sure if this can happen, would need to see if Mark can do it or not.

On the ORL site we had a CHAT function on there, were a group of people (Staff) got together to discuss league plans and things that needed sorting. I know it's easy just to post stuff on here, but it's a lot faster and more productive with a Chat Function.

I know most of you will have Windows Live Messenger, Google Talk, Skype etc. But to have that function on here (If Possible) would be great for you guys in moving forward and getting ideas across at a much faster pace.

You really need to see where DD is with TOM and how far away he is from getting the Schedules in and so on. It's ok setting dates and stuff but TOM is not 100% ready yet.

There is only Rich and Mark with DD email i think, if i was you guys see if DD can assist Leon in helping with TOM and then move from there.

Steve's ok with his Flat schedule.

The NH i don't have the Spreadsheet anymore, Hooley is hard to get hold of. So again ask Mark if Rich has a copy.

Am here for the guys who needs help with the NH side of things.

Hope this makes sense been playing poker 12h at casino and had about 15 pints. Never been more ready for my bed

Post Re: New League president required.
Hello, sorry for not posting t'internet has been off since Friday!

Thanks to Steve and PJ for the well wishes, it's a long term thing that was exacerbated by the drunk kids at uni! They literally never left me alone (drunk most nights of the week for 12 weeks! Banging on my door, window, shouting in the corridors etc whenever I went to bed early) meaning I couldn't get any rest which made me really ill.

Anyway, I have a question... The distances Steve mentioned would that mean if I enter the league and run a horse in a 7 F maiden he can only ever run at 7 F? Or are we having the +/- 1-2 F rule which I think was a great one depending upon the distance.

So:
5 -9F: +/- 1F i.e. you run in a 5f maiden and over the season you can then run over 5f or 6f.
10 -14F: +/- 2F (meaning you can have a horse run in the guineas/Dante/Judmonte International, or a horse run in the Derby/Leger)
15F - 16F: +/- 3F or 4F at the discretion of the steward(s)
16F +: +/- 4F meaning you can have a Dubai Gold Cup, Ascot Gold Cup, Goodwood/Donnie Cup, Irish St Leger, Melbourne cup horse.

Obviously there would be rules like if you run over 6f in a maiden you can't run over 7f, then 5f, then 7f again. You have to stick +/- 1F from the distance of your maiden and the distance of your last run; with the maiden distance determining the range of distances you can race over. So you can go from 10F up to 12F, but you can't then go to 14F or 8F because that would be more than the 2F rule. You could go 10F, 12F, 10F, 8F as that would still be within the confines of the rules. etc

I thought some of those distance rules were some of the best ideas brought into the league because it meant that there was some versatility like in real life. Plus as horses are more versatile in SO5 are we not wasting a new option for us? I think it would be good to have, what do other people think?

If you still need my help then I'm happy to do anything barring commentaries and bookmaking. If you're worried about stewarding for distance changes then I'd be more than happy to elect myself as a steward to enforce those, or any other rules that are brought in.

Welcome aboard Supercat

Yes we need to make the rules very clear and maybe tidy the forum by unsticky some old items
i dont like deleting topics becasue people lose post eg towards there g1 status

but if we un sticky old ones they will just drop down the list in time
and then maybe we can add new up to date topics and sticky them

i dont have admin rights in online lge so cant do anything
anyway would not have a clue how to sticky or unsticky something

Steve

These handicap rules might have to be adjusted slightly. Horses are much more versatile in SO5. I have numerous horses who can go multiple distances.

You might want to tweak the rules so that a horse needs to run over any two distances in maidens. If the horse runs well over different distances then this horse should be allowed to run over those distances plus the distances inbetween. I find the distance spread is about 3 furlongs in So5. Sprinters are quite capable of running well from 5f to 7f and even a mile on easier tracks. I have a horse who runs 2.30 for Ascot 12f and 2.38 for Ascot 2 miles.

The horse I posted in the St Leger section All About Eve runs 2.30.04 for epsom 12f and 2.30.1 for Ascot 12f. Which means thats a 3 furlong spread. I can even post images of times if need be

Its actually quite rare for me to get a one distance specialist in SO5. The stayers are even more versatile with distance

If you want further evidence of this take your best 5,6,7,8 and 10 furlong horses and trial them together over those distances. The results may be surprise you.

ok fair enough. 3 furlongs for everything over a mile then.

So someone would need to run their horses over 10f and 12f to qualify for the 3 distances 10,11 and 12 then. Obviously group and listed races have no such restrictions as they aren't handicaps. How will a horse be rated if it goes back into handicaps. Would you take the best performance and allow runs 1f either way of that performance.

NH will be different though with a wider spread. Will clarify this after others have made their suggestions

I see, that makes more sense.

I was thinking for long distance horses whom you struggle to find races for you would probably want to be able to aim it at 2 m - 2m 4F races rather than be stuck at 2 m, or 2 m 4F.

Sorry for opening up a bit of a can of worms. Maybe for later seasons where there is more planning time we can discuss changes to that, for now it is probably easier to keep it as simple as possible.

Yes I'm happy to steward.
