 Re: Homebred 2YO Guess Fest
All things being equal then yes I'd agree with you. But it's not as straightforward as that unfortunately. The only way to know is to trial in CK. I can show you lots of horses that look worse on stats but run faster in CK than ones with better looking stats.

 Re: Homebred 2YO Guess Fest
Tan Man will be a nice older horse i would put out to grass you have 2yo ready to race you dont need him & have a look next season but would guess the best will come from this as a 4yo or 5yo could be class in time
Twightlight Lover is ready to race and will have a decent 2yo campaign but may never reach a full potential bar
Talamo looks a nice 2yo and could dominate this season he is ready to race need no work and has good potential he will have a good career
Lady Hawk mmm i am not sure about this one i think you have alot better than her
Sunny California & Baltic Sea dont look good enough i would sell these
Being Many looks a quality horse he needs some work i would not step him up to group class til his bar goes light green protect him early he has great potential and could turn out to be a star he will rarely let you down but go easy early he could go through his career unbeaten if you look after him
Best At 2YO twilight Lover Talamo & Being Many ** Best at 3YO Being Many ** Talamo Best older horse Tan Man** & Being Many Best Career Being Many

 Re: Homebred 2YO Guess Fest
Thanks both of you for the astute observations. PJ, how you see the potential in each of the horses is impressive. I never really consider any of the things you point out. Think I'll pay more attention to the bars from now on. I consider the Potential, Finish Application, Cruising Burst , Battling Qualities and Constitution to be the most important in that order. By the way Headwind is the best bred of the bunch. Now to go ruin them with my training.

 Re: Homebred 2YO Guess Fest
Battling qualities means very little mate i have had horses with that bar half full and beaten by horses with little BQ all of my horses have very little battling qualities maybe 5 or 10%
The most important bar is the potential bar how full it is what percentage is dark green and more importantly whhat percentage is light green(readiness to race i call it) the rest are not that important i like high consistency bar and fairly high going surface adaptability is nice but not necessarily important i do like a max finish application its always nice to have that
By the way Sunny California has very good jumps potential so keep that could make a nice novice hurdler and novice chaser in time could start a nice breeding line for your NHC Lge team

 Re: Homebred 2YO Guess Fest
Those I deemed capable of sprinting early at two made their first start. 6 of 7 winners. Ladyhawk ran the fastest figure. Talamo ran the most visually impressive race settling far back early catching the leader in the final furlong and winning in hand. These were all run in January.

Put them all in a 6f gallop at home and lets see the results....Headwind is a lovely name for a horse I think.

 Re: Homebred 2YO Guess Fest
2yo season is in the books. Leading the way is... Being Manny - Settles early. Picks 'em off. Lays 'em down. Ladyhawk - Leads wire to wire with gritty determination. Headwind - Same as Ladyhawk. Missed 7 weeks with injury right before the Breeders Cup. Arrrrrg. Surprise runner... Sunny California - Huge late runner that'll surely improve with more ground on turf. I like this one. Interesting note - Tan Man broke down in training four times! I've never seen this happen before. The full rundown...

 Re: Homebred 2YO Guess Fest
Comparing the bars of the top four horses only two bars changed from the beginning of their 2yo season and the beginning of their 3yo season. Potential Rating (Which I already knew) and Cruising Burst. All others stayed the same. Wow

Talamo lives up to expectations in thrilling Kentucky Derby. The Kentucky Derby chart below with each horses preps underneath that..

Talamo dominates in Preakness to set up date with destiny in Belmont Stakes. New shooter Sunny California awaits coming off a scintillating allowance win. Preakness
