Post My yearlings have disappeared.
I'm playing the jumps game and had 46 yearlings set to join the yard. In preparation, I got rid of all but 54 of the horses in my yard to make way for them. However, when the new season started, I still had my 54 horses but no fresh yearlings at all.

I still have the game saved from the last weekend of May but though I've tried getting rid of more horses from my yard and from the barns, no such luck.

Have my yearlings gone on a mass exodus?
Is there any way of getting them back?
Why did this happen?
Can I prevent this from happening again?

No,
No, you have to wait until the next season,
Don't know, it has done since SO3/4
Nope.

Rather brief but they'll all be a year behind. It is quite annoying and it was thought it had been fixed but it obviously hasn't. I now breed horses in a flat game and transfer them into a jumps game because I find this yearling thing so annoying.

Not if they're on the point of changing from yearlings to 2yo's, I believe that is what this person is meaning. Technically they miss a year anyway as they go from in gestation to yearlings, so I guess the NH way is actually correct giving them a year to be a foal!

its one thing ive always liked though as it adds to the realism of the game...
bred in 2011
appear in game as foals in breeding barn in sep 2012 (ok bit late to foal but never mind...)
appear in game breeding barn as yearling sept 2013 (they turned 1 yo the previous january)
appear in game as a 2yo in sept 2014 (they turned 2 yo the previous january)

tests your patience but much more realistic , but thats just my oppinion.

Thanks for the fast replies...

Yes, they were on the verge of turning into 2yos. I'm in my 16th/17th season of this save and it has never happened before. I've been breeding every season and it's all been fine. I've had it where a few yearlings didn't make it because the yard was too full but never where an entire crop has simply disappeared.

So if I have to wait another year for them to come through, will the ones I bred this season also come out a year later and so forth?

I know I could always just buy a bunch of 2yos from the auctions but I've pretty much moved into an exclusively homebred programme. That and my star sire is going to joss it soon (he's 16yo) and I wanted to get as much out of him as possible.

And indeed, I enjoy the whole patience thing you get with store horses. There's almost a sense of nostalgia when you recall having bred your better mares with that multiple G1 winner you wished you owned.

If you go to the breeding barn and select either of the parents data screen, at the top right where it lists the offspring does it say if the have yearlings on that screen?

I've just skipped the summer and his 2027 yearlings are still there along with his 2028 ones.

This is very peculiar as it hasn't happened before.

So next season, I'm going to have to anticipate the arrival of 90+ 2yos? I usually have a mass clearout at the start of each season to prevent a glut of new kids, 70% of which will be going straight to the sales?

Just fast forwarded through a season and my yearlings are still in effect...

I'm still perplexed as to why the sudden change in protocol but so long as I haven't lost my lovely horseys I'm quite content.

Now I can watch the actual racing at Fairyhouse in peace.

Cheers everyone.

I agree with that too. I'm sure there will be plenty of league players who would complain bitterly, but in the long run it makes no difference. It just means you have an extra season to wait. If you make a 3 week long schedule for league breeding then it would be even less of a problem. I think Mark should program this into the game for SO6.
