My Game My Way - The Breeding Shed
This is my little breeding database which I created 16 years into my game. I mainly wanted to keep track of the average +/- winning times of stakes horses career feature race wins. I then decided to go all out and keep more detailed stats of horses who enter my breeding shed. The idea being that I'd stop breeding willy nilly and start breeding to horses who when they retire have a minus average for their career feature races. With of course preferring the fastest horses. Below is a partial shot of Bramley Dancer who on retirement averaged a -2.18 over 20 or so career feature wins. As the games progresses the +/- will change up or down depending on how the standard times for each track/distance fluctuate. Since I started this database so late into my game the +/- times on horses before 2023 aren't the average they had when they retired. I will slowly weed out the slower horses but as of now I can't get rid of them for sentimental reasons. Turquoise color are horses in the breeding barn and the black with red font are their parents. My foundation sire was Windy Harbour who just passed this season. As you can see Windy Harbour was a prolific producer of stakes quality horses. {STYLE} Refers to a horses running style and comes in handy because I like to breed horses who have similar styles. The {+/-} after {ave. best distance} refers to how effective the horse was compared to its ave best distance. Example: A 2 means the horse was able to win consistently at 2 furlongs longer then its ave. best distance. {GRW} refers to group wins. Group 1 to Group 3 from left to right. I'll also keep track of game sires and broodmares +/- times and only breed to the fastest each year. Two of these horse are my cast offs. I don't want to transfer horses and start multiple games. I'm perfectly fine grinding out horses from a single save. I'm finding keeping these stats to be enjoyable. Whether I ever get a top class league horse makes me no never mind.... I don't give a flying fluck! I'm having fun!

would take forever I can imagine. I'm just plugging away so now it's somewhat manageable. Each year will start with updates to the database. Usually around five or so horses. It becomes habit and routine like churning out charts for the league.

Two comments.
Your minus below average is defendant on going and course. Hard/firm tends to produce greater minuses though this is partially dependant on course. You're going to breed horses that would like a certain going depending on in game bias.
Secondly average times vary from game to game. IMO the rng produces quite big differences and again would have an effect on what distances your horses are best at.

Would you not agree that a horse with a majority of minus number feature race wins is a worthy breeding prospect. Bramley Dancer won everywhere on both surfaces always producing a minus number. RNG? Means what please?

Re: My Game My Way - The Breeding Shed
In general yes but is that horse the fastest horse in CK? How fast a horse goes in game is dependent on a number of things - going, pace, what your ingame jockey had for breakfast that morning and deciding to hold up your horse instead of running handy which suits it best despite your express instructions. Also average minus depends on track/going as I've stated.
RNG = random number generator essentially what used to generate a variety of horses good/bad in your game database each time you start the game.
What you're essentially trying to do is use the ingame race creator to find the best horses. Now for game horses you don't own there's no better way and that's what makes trying to find a good horse to breed with in breeding barn difficult. As an example, absolute number of G1s won is no indicator especially for fillies where they struggle against their colt counterparts but you can't export game horses you don't own to CK.
CK allows you to standardize more variables and objectively find the better horse for your current CK settings and you're accepting that horse performing well at that setting will translate across through to a whole range of different settings. So a horse that performs best out of a group of horses with no wind on good going at Ascot should also perform best when subjected to a whole different range of conditions for that group of horses. Think about it - it doesn't always hold true but you can't test at every condition (no wind/headwind/tailwind) on every going (heavy to hard) at every course! The question is how you refine your testing to find horses you want to breed to enter the league.
Essentially what I am saying is using the ingame race creator to pick what horse is the best will generally not work. You might find better than average horses but finding the best is key.

Re: My Game My Way - The Breeding Shed
Gotcha. But I really want to stick to one game and continuously refine what I have and enjoy the nature of it. The transferring part doesn't appeal to me. If I get a somewhat competitive horse in the league I'm happy. I do a lot of trialing so I know who is good. 500 seasons down the road look out I tell ya! Thanks for the info. I value it greatly.
