Post Re: UKRA Trainer Talk Reaction & Banter
Review of my week 3 flat runners. A bit of a frustrating week with a couple of bad rides and a bit of a lack of luck. But I got my first ever UKRA winner and 3 winners overall for my team so I can't complain too much.

UKRA race 3: Suffolk Stakes 1m1f: Oak Crystal Lodge: 9/13 outpaced, but jockey let him drop to last ( ). Stayed on but all too late will appreciate an extra furlong and maybe a drop in the ratings…

UKRA Race 9: Earl of Sefton Stakes 1m1f: Oak Suffolk Crystal: 10/19 allowed to drop to the rear, ran on really well and got going too late finished well within the leading bunch, I think she ran better than her finishing position. Will be better for further.

UKRA Race 11:Ormonde Stakes 1m5f: Oak Honduran Crystal: 2/11 stopped at 3f and 2.5f from home, flew home and would have won in another stride or two. He may go for the Coronation next week, as there aren't really any races for him until week 6-7 with the Curragh Cup and I'd really like to know how good he really is.

UKRA Race 21: Musselburgh Gold Cup 1m6f: Oak Crystal Currency: 1/9 went on 2.5f from home and kept galloping. Maybe got the run of it by challenging early, but I wasn't too shocked as I thought he was better than his maiden run. Fingers crossed he won't be too harshly treated by the handicapper because he can be a bit unreliable in the CK and I wouldn't have thought he'd be up to competing in group company.

UKRA Race 30 div 2: Halling Maiden 1m2f: Oak Constable Rose: 6/14 didn’t quicken until final 0.5f, but front runner won so possible lack of pace didn't help her as she is a 'restrain early' horse.. Will keep at 1m2f for now, maybe find a handicap for her.

UKRA Race 32: Victoria Cup 7f: Oak Charlie Wolf: 4/15 not quite as keen, looked like winning at 2f out, but just didn’t quicken further and run out of 3rd by one flying from the back. Will run over 1m next time and looks to be desperate for it, maybe the Royal Hunt Cup if he isn’t slammed by handicapper

Week 3 round up.

Ah the ones that got away :). Congrats to the guineas winners. Well run in possibly the slowest races I've ever seen :).

Congrats to Joe to but I'll see you in the Oaks :).

9 entries - 5 winners

Cumulative win rate for 3 weeks - 18 winners in 35 runs = 51% (If I can maintain this over 12 weeks it'll be an achievement I think!)

The sprinters came good again this week with Domnu and Nehebka both winning fairly easily and against older horses as well.

Tatosi did well and I should hope will continue to do well in the Derby.

Arani finally came good in the Musidora at 10f though the going didn't suit which was nice to see. IMO she's better than Taran :) (see my stable previews prior to the league start) and I suspect she'll figure in more Group 1s than Taran by the end of the league.

Khamsin won a 7f 2 year old maiden in impressive style. This was a sentimental favorite given that this filly was the first one I named (till then they had names like Lasla Laanr A/C etc.. yeah really imaginative!).

Finally Taran lost.. which was not unexpected. Paul has a sense of the overdramatic :) in his newsletters but realistically speaking he was never going to go though the season unbeaten.

Shocking ride in the Kentucky, I've well and truly stolen the race after it was nicely set up by Doc and Leon. Lets go again in the French Derby! They like to water the track in France. Do you fancy Taran and Arani on soft?

Celebrate is now a big runner at Epsom, her style will be well suited by the track. Yima is all class but she cant get going too late. Tatosi should win still though it will depend on the pace and how many front runners there are.

I'm entered for the French races - Should be Arani/Taran but they are over 10.5 and there's an outside chance I might rejig the entire line up depending on going but that's probably unlikely as I don't fancy running Suleviae at the Oaks though she can post some fast times but slightly less consistent.

We'll see about Oaks. Don't forget the race this week was 11f. I think the extra furlong makes a difference :) especially for Yima.

5 winners for me. 2 seconds and a third

Tahiti was impressive winning off 10 stone. That's hard to do in the league. Mountain Rescue won over 2f short of his best. The Caldran remains the target.
Dibine Chemistry got going too late to finish 2nd again.
All About eve finished 3rd and remains on target for the St Ledger
Wine Press got mugged on the line.
Action Script won well over 6f but is better over 5f

Across th Ocean won well over 10f. Ideally wants further

Fugitive Motel is a monster. It will be group 1's for her from now on. Epsom doesn't suit but Ascot does. She will win the King George. I thought my 10f hoses were good but she demolishes them. This is a recent discovery as I thought she was a 12f horse.

As I have said on numerous occasions. You need horses in the league who can handle slow pace. Trialling with pacemakers doesn't facilitate this. Well done to Bob Dylan. Set his own pace and nothing could come from the back.

Omerta and Dark Regime will ensure that the oaks / derby get run at a decent pace. Celebrate won't get an easy led. Omerta hasn't shown anything yet but expected that. She finishes last in all my trials except at Epsom where she wins. I have a sire who specializes in breeding Epsom specialist. Dark Regime is from the same line. They both love Epsom and I expect both to be right there

Dark Regime is a very different horse at Epsom. He will lead and he will be much harder to pass at Epsom.

Two winners for me this week thats three for the flat season and three more than i got all last season
Two Handicaps

Qatar Handicap Spoilt For Choice a sprinter from the 80's as retuened to the winners spot over thirty years later or about thirty years won with a bit to spare may get another win now going to Royal Ascot for the Workingham.

Betfred Silver Bowl Song Thrush another big handicap winner and now Ascot bound Brittania could be a Option if not to harshly treated if is lumped up the weights might go for the Jersey over 7 furlongs instead.

Also Basic Wage ran well in the nursery to finish third after winning last week looks like may need 7f so stepping up in trip next time see what happens.

All in all my flat horse's are better than i thought so even if i dont get anymore this season i have already had my best flat season ever.

Now Back to the real racing of the jumps World

P.s I Nearly uploaded a horse called THETHINGABOUTITIS I see Jimmys got the same named horse uploaded did you used to follow Geoff Lewis Jimmy and wha would happen leon if you got two horse's with the same Name

I'll accept that but you can't have everything :). And I think the horses will still come good in time. And have you seen my win rate?

Which non pacemaker trialling trainer has a higher win rate? 8)

This doesn't make sense to me. Did you have the 10 and 12f swapped around.

As for the King George.. see you there :) looking forward to the 3 year old vs 4+ matchup again.

Got my first Group winner :D Commentary from Leon made it even better. Celebrate wants 1m5 ideally but she has good tactical speed and can quicken off the front, as with all my 1m4 horses, best at Epsom, so hopefully ill get a good run from her next week. Yima got no run at all so it will be interesting to see what happens in the Oaks, I dont know if Celebrate goes in as the fav but she will be top rated after that performance.

Bonduba was disappointing in the Chester Vase but I wasnt really surprised, he isnt the most consistent and he only runs at Epsom, Erhaab will take him on for the lead there again but I know he will outrun the rating he has achieved so far. He has 20 pounds to find on ratings with Tatosi going into the race but that is very misleading and he will be a cracking e/w bet

Starolema was unlucky in the Pretty Polly, she got boxed in and it was all over by the time she got out, been quite surprised at how good she has been, didnt think my 1m2 horses were up to much.

No disrespect to the Guineas winners but both were false races and a nightmare to rate, line through them, hopefully there is a decent pace on at the Curragh and Ascot.
