Post Re: Newbie with a few questions.
Update.

Time for another update. The four horses who all one both their maiden and in Listed company, where sent out in different Gr races in the final months of their 2yo season. I had high hopes for them so I two of them in Gr2 races and the other 2 into Gr1 company. One totally blew it and is out of the question, the other 3 I will present now:

Watch Me (Rating 106): This is a Filly from Take me Home (story well presented earlier in this thread) and the mother was Head Watch, a filly who had a short racing career before beeing retired to breeding duties. But she managed to win the Rippon Champion 2yo Trophy and as a 3yo both the English and Irish 1000 guineas.

Watch Me has really impressed me, won a 5f maiden at Southwell early in the year without beeing pressed at all. After that I sent her out in the 6f Empress Stakes Listed race on Newmarket. Once again she led from start to finish, going clear last furlong. At this point she was rated 98, and shown no signs of weakness. I sent her to France for last start of the season in the 6f Criterium de Maisons-Lafitte Gr2 race. She raced handy, took the lead inside the last furlong and one by 1 1/4 lengths. In this race she again showed me something i had noticed in the Listed race earlier. When she gets to the lead, and other horses are coming with their runs, Watch Me just finds another gear. Looks as she does just whats needed of her, took the lead by a head inside final furlong in the Gr2 race, and held that for a while, another horse came with a big finish, and she just accelerates again. I like her, really promising 2yo season.

The Queen Is Home (Rating 106): Another Filly from Take Me Home and mother Homecoming Queen. Mother didnt have a specially good racing career, won a Listed race as a 2yo and only big win in Gr company was the Coronation Stakes as a 3yo.

The Queen Is Home was not as impressive as Watch Me in her maiden. Won a relatively weak maiden by a length and was only rated 84 after that race. But in the second race she was good, 6f Two-Year-Old Trophy Listed race at Redcar. She reminded me of her father Take Me Home, settled in the rear early, was nudged along between 3f and 2f pole to be up with the leaders. She went at the 1f marker, they kept up with her until there was 1/2 furlong left, then she sprinted clear to win by a couple of lengths. She impressed me so much, and the jockey indicated that she would stay further, that I sent her to America, to race in the Breeders Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf over 1m. Just like her farther she was in the rear early, a long way off the lead. She gained some distance and was a little bit closer as they approached 4f to go. 2f out she was still 5-6 lengths off the pace, and the jockey told her to go. Soon after she was hampered and jockey had to stop riding her and correct her. But even with that incident she kept going and gained a lot in the last furlong to just get up and win by a short head.

Quest For Home (Rating 105): Also this one a filly, from Take Me Home and mother is Quest Banque. Again nothing of a special racing career from the mother, but she won 2 Gr 1 races both in Hong Kong, The Champions Mile and the Hong Kong Mile.

Quest for Home is a bit of a worry for me, she has been agitated and sweating in 2 out of 3 races. Even if she won them, if she during this season continues to act up in the paddock, she will no go on and win the races we have planned. In maiden she was sweating, cruised to an early lead and was never headed and took an easy win by 3 lengths. Second race was the Rippon Champion 2yo Trophy, this day she looked fine in the paddock. She settled in the mid division and when they where 2f out she had caught up to the leading horses, but she was totally blocked in against the rail. It stayed this way to well inside the last furlong, she got out midway through the last furlong and stormed clear to win by almost 2 lengths. She looked to have plenty of stamina, the jockey confirmed that she should stay further, so she would also run in a 1m contest for her last race of the season. As with Watch Me I also sent Quest for Home to France to compete in the 1m Criterium International Gr1. Once again she was agitated and sweating in the paddock and drifting badly in the betting. Unlike the last race she raced handy this time, and as they entered the last furlong she was in front by half a length. Many horses came with strong finishes but she held on to win by 1/4 length. Looks good overall but im a little worried about the signs in the paddock.

I will decide soon what one I will try the challenge with, but if someone has a meaning, feel free to comment. The 2 that doesnt get chosen will have more "normal" 3yo season and hopefully can do well also. For me its between The Queen Is Home and Watch Me I think, but still undecided.

More to follow :D

No, comments...uuhmmm. Thats good cause I have made the selection, meet the new challenger for the ultimate 3yo miler test:

The Queen Is Home is the chosen one :D Looks nothing really impressive concerning her stats, but I have watched all the candidates races many times, and after a long debate with myself  I have decided that she is the one. Ran really well in her two last races after the maiden as a 2yo, and the way she finished the 2yo Trophy and got up even if she was hampered in the BC Juvenile was what made me select her.

So an update on seasons schedule:

English 1000 Guineas
Irish 1000 Guineas
St James Palace Stakes ( This one we have to change as it is Colts only.....Suggestions? Coronation Stakes?)
Sussex Stakes ( my nemesis :D )
Queen Elisabeth II
Breeders Cup Mile

Wish us luck and I will update in "Story mode" as with Take Me Home if that is still interesting.

Go for it Tom, its good to see a story unfolding post by post rather than the whole career in a single post.

Tom if u fail to win go for the older Division of it. Not many have tried it a horse called Distant Relative in 1990 raced in all of them and Finished

3 Queen Anne
1 Sussex
3 Prix Jacques Le Marois
1 Prix Du Moulin
2 Queen Elizabeth

That's a proper race series.

Tom join the league, u write some good reviews they are always looking for people to write them for the league. Reviews and previews.

Maybe I will join the next league season, you are in the middle of one now right?

Yeah if I fail the 3yo test I will let it race for that series as a 4yo. Thanks for that challenge.

Yes but after this weekend it's open for a week ( transfer window) but new trainers can enter. If u saved u horse u could put him into it, it's hard but it's fun. It's my first season in the league and I had just one weekend to find all the horse( I joined right before the start) and even though I've got the worst stable I'm still having fun.

English 1000 Guineas.

A new challenge is about to begin, and hopefully we have picked the right horse and trained her well. Was a really nice day at Newmarket, sun was out and the ground was firm. Now its always nice with sunny weather but firm ground concerned me, not because The Queen Is Home dont like it, but it would be a fast pace and tougher to pick up lengths in the end. Just like her father this filly is a hold up horse, and I new if she was 7-9 lengths off the pace with 3-4 furlongs left to go there would be no chance of getting up. I decided to take a small gamble, as I had never tried it with her before, and told the jockey to race her handy.

All looked well in paddock, and after a long break since last 2yo race she was raring to go. She broke well and was quickly into the lead, but the jockey took the reins for a couple of strides to let a couple pass. As they passed the 7f marker she was 3rd no more then a half length behind. The field had settled and nothing much changed until they had 3f to go. 3 or 4 horses really had begun to make there way from mid field position and as the passed the 3f marker they where 4 or 5 horses neck and neck. Into the 3rd last furlong the jockey nudged her along to keep up with the others, and when they had 2 to go she was given marching order. The Queen Is Home and one other competitor drew clear by a length or so, and stayed neck on neck until they reached the final furlong. I wondered if she would have more pace/stamina left as she had never been racing handy before against this kind of opposition. But as they entered the final furlong she quickly gained a length and held on to that advantage til the end. The Queen Is Home had won the English 1000 Guineas.

Hoping for a little softer ground at the Irish Guineas as I have a feeling her best races will be coming from off the pace, but we will see.

English 1000 Guineas is ticked off, now we are heading for Ireland :D

Stay tuned.

Emergency update.

The ultimate 3yo miler challenge is over??? A few days after The Queen Is Home had won the English 1000 Guineas, I went on a holiday with my family. As I sat and enjoyed a nice dinner with my family on a restaurant in Spain, my cell rang. It was from the head lad at my stable, The Queen Is Home had showed signs of injury and they had sent for the vet. A couple of hours later I got a new call, the vet had confirmed their suspicion, Luxations and up to 20 weeks on the sideline......

I felt almost as bad as when Take Me Home couldnt take home the Sussex stakes. But I guess an injury you cant do much about, just a shame the timing was so bad. This was supposed to be the big year.

As I returned from holiday and things had sunk in, I decided that instead of dwelling with things that was out of my control, like an injury, to look forward and make big plans for the 4yo season instead.

The Schedule planned for The Queen Is Home next year:

Queen Anne
Sussex
Prix Jacques Le Marois
Prix Du Moulin
Queen Elizabeth

As I have a lot of 2yo and others to race still this year it will be some time for the next update.

Post Re: Newbie with a few questions.
End of the line.

I have decided to start a new save. Part I have gone a bit tired of the save and part I want a fresh start. Will race thru the 4yo season for The Queen Is Home to see how she does at the latest challenge set up for her. Then I will transfer the best horses to an new game start breeding of them and start a new "Challenge thread" when/if I have a "Beast".

Will update The Queen Is Home's results in this post as she runs the races:

Queen Anne - Finished second. Had a really nice finish, just a bit to late to catch winner. Beaten 1/2 length
Sussex - Finished fifth. Was waaaaaay back, finished best of all but had way to much to do.
Prix Jacques Le Marois - Finished second. Raced a little closer to the leaders than last time. Gained a lot on winner last half furlong but not enough, beaten 1/2 length.
Prix Du Moulin - Finished fourth. Dead last 5f to go. Finished best of all again 1 length behind leader.
Queen Elizabeth - Won. Almost in contact with leaders 2f out. Quickened nicely last furlong to win by 2 1/2 lengths.

Thank you for reading, hopefully I will be back with a new thread once my new save gets going.
