Post What do people do with 3 yr old nh horses
as title suggests i am curious to see what people do with 3yr old nh horses?

i have two 3 yr olds who wil turn 4 in january. one likes firm ground only and has run in 3 nh flat races in september (it wants 2m so felt that teh earlier we got started the better). does anyone turn their young horses away and then start them again as 4yo's in teh next september

as far as i can see there arent very many nh flat races for horses that turn 3yo until after september anyway?

I usually send my horses to grass until 4 as well. I also transfer any 2 mile+ horses from the flat to the nh, might get a grand national horse. :D

I send mine out into bumpers only at 3yo and have a crack at champion bumper route ....... then at 4yo juvenile hurdling and down the supreme novices hurdle route ....... then champion hurdle at 5yo ......... this is only for the better 2 milers though, If you have supposed 2 milers that seem to lack pace on the gallops then put them out to grass until they are 5yo and send them towards the triumph hurdle and hopefully onto the aintree hurdle at 6yo ...... hope this helps i've played a hell of a lot of this game since starters orders 3 and this system is very consistent ...... also if you intend on achieving this then try and avoid breeding hurdlers with chasers

Good advice mate, you don't aim any at juvenile hurdles at 3 though?

I look at the potential if its pretty good (light Green) mostly I send some down the Juvenile route to take in the Truimph hurdle at Cheltenham some down the Nh Flat route for the bumpers then the ones left who need time I put away for another season so they can then either take the Novice Hurdle route towards the supreme hurdle or again send them back to out to grass until 5 then I give them a few runs and decide either to keep or sale.
