Post Re: UKRA Flat G1 Winners
Updated for week 11.

7 G1s this week. Really a 2 year old G1 week as the 2 yr olds had 5 races.

Congrats to PJ for winning his 2nd G1 with Trojan Master on what was probably the most testing conditions a 2 year old will run in (10f on heavy ground!).

Also congrats to Matt for Go Morning joining the ranks of a double G1 winner in the 10f Champion Stakes at Ascot.

The rest (unfortunately) were won by me. All the 2 year olds in our stables have won a G1 each and I was surprised to see them win 4 this week. I would have been happy with 2 our of 5.

And the one I really wanted to win :). A G1 Mile race. Bragi finally broke that barrier and with it the donkeys have actually managed to win G1s at 5/6/7/8/10/12/14f which was one of my targets at the start of the season!

I considered adding the G1 handicaps and don't get me wrong the horses all deserved their wins. However I felt that winning of equal weights is a standard to aspire to after all we wouldn't be celebrating Frankel the way we do if he'd won half his races at a lighter weight (No disrespect to Versions who won off top weight and really was the performance of the week).

Another thing about G1 Handicaps that really irritates me is that it is so typically an antipodean thing to do. Just to turn things around and do it another way almost (and I say this without being biased against Aussies).

I respectfully completely disagree these finals give every single trainer something to aim for
we can't have a schedule full of G1s it then becomes a lge for the elite surely there is room for everyone
these finals give a chance for casual players to win a g1 and more importantly keep interest in the lge right to the end
i think its a great addition i could be biased as they were my idea and its only my opinion but i do think they a good addition

I think the G1 handicaps are great as well, and thats not just because im going to win two or three of them. Yes Im being arrogant again.

I feel we should have a review of the season, a week or two after we finish, and get as many trainers opinions as possible on the good and bad things from this season. It wont be easy to find a balance and nothing will ever be perfect but it can always be improved. The schedule was ok/good but can take another step forward for next season. The transfer window was a great idea.

I also think we should ban Andy or limit his stable to five horses? Im not putting in all that time and effort again to finish second!

I Agree when i first joined the lge years ago maybe 6 or 7 years ago i lasted a week it was an elitist lge and thats fair enough
my horses were pants and there at the time was nothing to aim for now everyone has something to aim at no matter what level
of horse you have or the amount of time you put in

Great Idea i would love to see the views of every trainer

I Agree i am not putting all this time in to finish 10th  but if we pick a distance each we can attack him from all sides

Cheers guys :P

5 horses isn't really doable IMO. The Classics themselves would require 5 horses. But I don't really see the same for next season. Paul is already posting 1m times that I am seeing. We're not talking slower trying to catch up we're talking comparable times. So is Jalupen at 6f. If he's going 1:10:3/4 and trying to crack 1:10 then again I would expect he'll win most of those next season as consistently posting 1:10:3 is faster than what I am doing and the flipside of having fast 6f horses is fast 5f horses so I don't see me winning many of those if he does break 1:10.

I've no doubt Joe will come back strong in the 12f races. He's posted 2:29:05 at Epsom and I'm going slightly faster with 1 horse so there's not much in it there either as far as I can see.

That leaves the 10f and 14f races. After 8f, 10f IMO is the one where the rest of the league are closest and I'm sure the gap will narrow again.

Which really only leaves the long distance (1m5f+) where no one has stated they are chasing the gap :P

So you see.. next season will be very different.

I agree with you completely. The G1 handicaps are a great way to round the season off and it's something for all trainers which is one reason why I entered two of them (aside from the curiosity of wanting to see how far off they would be) as I also wanted to support these races.

I would hate an elitist league and the whole point of a lot of my posts are to try and get as many trainers as possible to have better horses so that it's wide open and everyone can compete at the highest level.

I do however think there is a difference between winning a G1 and a G1H :D. And yes maybe that is a little elitist but that's my feeling and I would never insist anyone feel the same.

Final lists

8 G1s this week. Congrats to Nash for winning 2 especially the Breeders Cup Classic and also Qasser for winning his 2nd G1 and becoming one of the few horses to win multiple G1s.

Congrats also to Joe for Rockonic becoming one of 2 2year olds to win multiple G1s (the other being Khamsin for me!)

Also Foreign Victory (leonvr) for denying Yima her 7th G1 of the season (and also her only G1 loss).

Just 1. I don't consider G1 Handicaps for this list though.

Joe can comment on this further but I think it depends on which races you enter and how well the horse does in relation to other winners. I never thought Aganju had a serious change of winning the G1 Handicap to be honest hence I had backed PJ's horse in the £25 betting thread. I was amazed to see him win. He's had 7 runs (prior to the G1H) - won 4 and finished 5/6/7 in the races he didn't win which maybe why his rating was the lowest of all my 2 year olds. I guess it's one of the vagaries of having a human handicapper :).
