What about the horses in between distances. How can u have 2 nhf flat races and two juvenile races over two miles and yet there are only 5 races over three miles plus. There are a lot more staying horse's than nhf horse's or juveniles. I agree with you here. But there still aren't really enough races for horse who want in between distances who aren't graded horses. Add in the fact that the CK handicapping system is overly harsh (particularly if you have a stayer) and you quickly run out of races to enter. I think the lower races should have the ratings dropped to 0-100 so the lesser horses can win. I do think the CK is harsh, my one horse won then went up 16 pounds. My horse's are running out of races. I do think u need a handicapper because the Ck wont drop many horse's weights. It only seems to put horses up.

 Re: Maiden Issue
Actually Matt I used the Wikipedia page for the top races the trouble with races the name of the race can always change also I used my excel and formulated as well I did this for the flat aswell but that schedule was changed so all my form was a waste of time to me the NH schedule may need a tweak here or there but I still think the flat may need a bit more drastic approach. Re: Maiden Issue
Anyone who comes up with a schedule has my respect because it's not easy, it took me 3 months to come up with my USA schedule and it took many hours and many game plays to get it right.

 Re: Maiden Issue
I used some of the schedule for minor races but the Main races I used http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Br ... Hunt_races which was the link you put up and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Br ... orse_races another link you put up. I used the schedule to Help me with the FRENCH JUMPS to locate when certain races where run and put them in the right week like I did with this schedule in week3 of course I look at the schedule with SO5 but but to try and Keep the irish races in line with the running of the British races so to go hand in hand together through out the season.

 Re: Maiden Issue
I think the NH schedule is fine. With there being a lot of graded handicaps it gives most horses chances in races so there always races to aim for smaller stables.
We have had 18 out of 21 trainers winning races in NH
and 27 different trainers winning races on the flat and we have only had 5 weeks of racing. It does seem that all trainers have been catered for if you look at these figures.

 Re: Maiden Issue
I think if the schedule was to stay the same it would only take three added races a week to fill the schedule.
I had a look at next week's races and it would only need three extra races to fill the schedule out.
2m 2f Hurdle h'cap 2m6f Hurdle h'cap 2m2f Chase h'cap
The Week After
2m4f Hurdle h'cap 2m6f Hurdle H'cap 2m2f Chase h'cap
I don't think we are that far from a great schedule, add three races a week and everyone should/would be happy.
I think those Moores long distances races are great. Some of the best races.

If every trainer has a winner it doesn't necessarily mean the schedule is perfect. There is a real lack of opportunities for horses over certain distances and grade. A 3yo, rated 91 or above, wanting 1m2 has not had a handicap to run in yet. That cant be right? Yet a group horse can run every single week. Are we really catering for everyone? Lesser trainers seem to have less opportunities to me. They do get to run next week, not at Ascot, in the John Smith's Cup. My horse will probably win the race and then I'll get grief for running her in 1m races. But I had no other choice. That is just one example, there are a lot over all the ages and distances.

 Re: Maiden Issue
My only real gripes are with the Flat schedule. The Jumps I only have 2 horses (out of 30) that haven't had more that 3 chances to run yet and that is one 3m Novice Hurdler and a 2m4f Novice Chaser but this is more than likely the case because I have more than one of each and the other horse gets to run in that race. I also think I'm less likely to get a winner in the jumps purely because handicaps are mainly 0-180 but it's hard to have lower rated handicaps when you have the system doing the handicaps so I'm not too fussed about that. I personally would do the handicapping if I had the time but I don't, it's no ones fault the system has one horse on 93 after finishing 8/9/8/12/10 then one on 106 finishing 15/14/12/12/PU....
IMO the main problem with the flat is the group race dominance, I've had 2 2yo's who are 1m/1m1f who have only had 2 chances to run each, a 1m 4yo, 1m1f 3yo and a 1m4f 3yof who have had to run in group races as they have had nowhere else to run. Both 1m4f 3yo's had only 2 runs up to week 5 as there were no handicaps. I'd say only 13/14 of my 20 horses have had a chance to run in a race at their level - (0-80 to 0-100 handicaps) and still won't get a chance... week 7 (13 Group races/11 Handicaps), week 8 (16 Group races/9 Handicaps) etc etc...
I agree with Matt about the group horse can run every week statement as for example my 0-90 at best 1m4f 3yof has had to run in a maiden, then the Chester Oaks and the Oaks because there is nowhere else to run it.
Personally I would wholly agree with Ghostzapper about the NHC we aren't far from a great schedule especially the moores millions series and that a handicapper addition to that league would make it very good. The flat needs a slight overhaul, maybe with the addition of an extra 3/4 handicaps a week and dropping a few group races would even it out a bit. Although personally I wouldn't want to add any more races as running the races takes more than enough time already! But it shouldn't be taken away that Gray and whoever did the Flat have done a great job already and it just needs a little tweaking as something regardless of how good could always improve!

Dont need a 1m2 maiden when you already have one over 1m1.
