If u trialling for the flat I'd say Good ground but if u trialling for the jumps then u need to trial on both.

my trial finals have 30 horses in theses trials are run at cheltenham on good ground
The top ten go through to selection process

i then trial the 10 horses at 6 tracks 6 trials on each track (cheltenham soft ascot soft Newcastle G/F aintree heavy sandown hard puunchestown soft)

its a bit in depth trialing
BUT This way you are Guaranteed to find your most consistent horse on any going on various tracks not
just a cheltenham specialist which was my main problem last year

Hope it helps mate

PJ your NH horses are beasts. I've trialled a few of mine against yours and they don't come close. You've put in a lot of time into it, you should go close to winning the league this season. I was ill for the last few months, in and out of hospital so haven't been playing much SO5. I'll have a team but I've low expectations. Best of luck to all this season and roll on SO6.

UPDATE ON TEAM
So we are almost a 3rd through the season here is a progress report on the team

League Winners
Diving Board 2
Horsepower 2
Monreal 2
Wonga 2
Congo Enigma 1
Diving Bomber 1
Doomberg Atlantic 1
Ecco Warrior 1
Freetowns 1
Sir Terminator 1
Sky Express 1
Songo Congo 1
Survaj 1
Urban Myth 1
Xandra 1

14 Horses yet to win a race & 1 horse yet to race

Highlights have been No.2 2 mile hurdler Horsepower and 2 mile 5 Hurdler Wonga
who is a little superstar and is never out the top 2 so pleased with her
Also Very pleased with 3 mile chaser Diving Board Big week ahead for My unbeaten 2
mile chaser Monreal who may loose her unbeaten record this week Cheltenham may not suit her well

Disappointments Undoubtedly the whole of the staying chaser division in that i dont include 4m +
horses just 3m2 - 3m5 and i think i have too many of them none of them yet to break there duck but ARE
all well handicapped and 2 go in the Hennessy this week My Triumph Hurdler has also been a touch disappointing
and my Bumper horse Urban Myth who is a freak in my CK but thankfully got off the mark this week and goes
to cheltenham this week which will hopefully bring the best out in him he could score again

After 4 weeks i am still in there fighting for the championship but John will be a tough nut to crack
all in all you expect highs and lows in the lge it is so so competitive but i have to say the time put into breeding
my first jumps bred NHC team has been very worth while.

I dont intend Breeding any subs i have 100s of horses that were not far off what i currently have so may bring
a few of them in to run in maidens etc.

Thank for reading

Paul if Rozza was my horse I'd only run her on good ground or better. I still believe when she gets her ground she will be able to use her monster turn of foot. The latter part of the season is when she comes alive. I think if the Hennsey was on good ground this week she would have been unbeatable. Keep the faith.

I've bred some new three milers chasers because my two 3m novice chasers are not good enough, winning the RSA chase at Cheltenham is more important than winning the gold cup.

Well We are past half way in the season so though id put together a half term report
on how the team is doing.

Group Record (G1) 2 (G2) 6 (G3) 5

League Winners
Wonga 3 (G1) (G2)
Monreal 3 (G1) (G3)
Diving In The Jungle 2 (G2)
Horsepower 2 (G2)
Sky Express 2 (G2)
Songo Congo 2 (G3 x 2)
Diving Board 2 (Listed)
Teo Filly 1 (G2)
Doomberg Atlantic 1 (G2)
Roberto Santini 1 (G2)
Freetowns 1 (G3)
Termination 1 (G3)
Ecco Warrior 1 (Listed)
Congo Enigma 1
Diving Bomber 1
Sir Terminator 1
Survaj 1
Urban Myth 1
Xandra 1
Rozza Angalinho Di Maria 1
Alvaro Di Marria 1
Bold Princess 1

Special Forces 0
Alvaro Di Matteo 0
Becca Di Maria 0
Italian Queen 0
Maria Sherapova 0
Princess Dundee 0
Range Finder 0
Mig Twentynine 0

As of the end of Tuesday week 7 the championship looks like this

1 Jamie Taylor 1512405 103 33.01
2 Paul Rhodes 1296861 169 17.75
3 John Morgan 1270276 110 28.18
4 Leon van Rensburg 1246597 178 17.42

Im still in there boxing but JT;s horses have now kicked in and with the new reinforcements he has bought i dont think i have any chance of catching him his horses are a level above mine some serious animals also with John And Leon just behind me i might find it tough to get a top 3 finish & undoubtedly as a whole winning races since the transfer in my opinion has become 40 - 50 % harder i could have bought
some new recruits in but did not have anything better than what i already have and i spent enough time on this lot so wanted to stay loyal
to them i am going to need a serious cheltenham and maybe a grand national winner to stay in with a chance of a top 3 finish but that is possible. I think the champion is already home and hosed in both codes fair play to him he has some real freaks and must have put a heck of alot of time & effort in to them the strength in depth JT has in both codes at almost every distance is an exceptional achievement
.

As with everything in life there have been surprises and disappointments along the way the team as a whole have achieved far greater
then i imagined 31 winners is something to be proud of. I hope to nab a winner with all 30 of the team but time is running out to do so and
there are still 8 Maidens in the yard anyway thanks for reading.

Well The season has come to and end and it comes with a tinge of sadness

Well here is how the gang Faired over the season

Image

Only 6 Failed to win races
The team had 15 individual Graded winners
And 6 individual Grade One Winners
The Team Clocked up a half Century of winners
Way above expectations

The season has been great its been a 4 way battle all season JT forged clear
of me John and Leon in the final few weeks of the season to seal the tittle
Many congratulations to Jamie have enjoyed every minuet of the battle
Waiting for tom to update but as it stands the team has finished in the runners up spot
a really good effort

Bright moments of the season came in the form of top class chaser Monreal who always
performed with credit and Star middle distance hurdler Wonga who was a little star
Late bloomer Sir Terminator came on strong in final few weeks to take the g1 liverpool
& World Series Hurdle but undoubtedly the Star of the show was world class novice chaser Roberto Santini
who was a 5 time winner this season.
The most versatile horse was the Classy Range Finder a multiple
winner over hurdles and fences.

There have been of course a few disappointments Urban Myth did not live up to
the hype only winning once and the 3 mile 2+ Chasers had a very poor season probably
down to me trialing on good instead of soft ground.

But all in all it has been a success story and hope you have enjoyed the journey as i have
thanks for reading hope to you all back in SO6 i guess we have to wait and see how it all works out
Been a Blast
All the best

Paul

TEAM RHODES AWARDS

Chaser of the year - Monreal
Hurdler of the year - Wonga
Novice of the year - Roberto Santini

Post Re: Jumps Team Progress
The problem I thought I had going into this season did happen, my 3m+ hurdler and chasers trials were run at stupid speeds and I thought going in my trial races were not going to be how the League races were run, over 60%+ of all my horses bred were front runners and though I loved watching them knew it was not realistic, I tried to get holed up horses but couldn't.
