Re: How do you build up your breeding stock in the begining?

For me, the difficulty is getting good mares. Gamebred fillies seem to be appalling. I breed quantity to begin with, if a filly won a group race she'd go to the barn. Then you hope you get lucky and breed some decent fillies, once that happens you're set.
I find in this game the breeding results are quite consistent. Good stallion + good mare = instant star. This latest season I won every G1 and G2 race in the standard schedule so I've got a good across the board ability in stamina but I don't feel like I've got anything league standard.
This is what I do too. I think it's all about getting a good foundation mare and getting a decent fillies line going, eventually with the aim that your colts will catch up with the fillies. I only just starting to get far enough into SO4 (season 16) when this began to happen and then my computer died and corrupted the game, so I'm hoping I can achieve it in this game.
I do think breeding is a little to predictable though, and far too easy. But then some game horses in my game are winning 20+ G1's so maybe it's the quality of the horses entering the races rather than the horses...
